Thank for making this video, I will be getting Tormek T8 in March 2025, getting I have been slowly getting accessories that I need to be able to sharpen knives, scissors, craving tools. Considering attachment for drill bits.

FYI, T-4 is pretty identical. Thanks for this video. Mine was making random grinding noises. Came across your video and was able to take apart and grease in about 5 minutes. Problem solved.

Good to know guys ask me about the T4 a lot but I have never owned or used one but all the Tormek Stuff is pretty great with a few exceptions -like the small knife jig

I bought mine second hand a few years ago and haven't done this yet (but I will start now!). found this because my wheel stops with very slight pressure to the point I almost can't sharpen. I guess I should call support. thanks for the clear instructions.
@kvernesdotten8 ай бұрын
Did you figure it out? Im thinking if the wheel stops but the motor keeps going, its probably an issue with the output shaft, if the motor stalls its probably a dead motor.
@RubenWoodcraft8 ай бұрын
@@kvernesdotten yes a simple slipping of the drive wheel. I lightly sanded that with a fine grit sandpaper and everything was fine again. Thanks for asking!

Yes it should never stop on A Tormek if that's happening it's not working correctly

I have been using Permatex for decades for mechanical work. It is an excellent product to prevent parts from being blocked by oxidation, but it is not a grease. To lubricate an axle like the one in the Tormek, I use HD grease, for example bearing grease.
@ALXSHARPEN Жыл бұрын
Have not had any issues with it .I have also used white grease that seems to work well.
@merlinch4256 Жыл бұрын
@@ALXSHARPEN There is no issue with Permatex. Only to say it is not a grease, just an oily compound.

Don’t worry at all it’s really easy

White grease is known for its sticky waterproof qualities, I understand logically greases are waterproof but white grease is a marine grade. The stone side does dribble water down the back side. The bushes are easy and cheap to replace but as is the way with plain bearings counterintuitively it’s the hard side (shaft) that wears.

Thanks for sharing insight. I intend to purchase one . . . I will modify the lubrication system before I use the grinder. I am surprised Tormek does not have a more user friendly lubrication system for this grinder. My lubricant of choice would be a full synthetic grease. Amsoil makes some great synthetic lubrication products.

Great info, thinking bout getting me a tormack t-8, what are your thoughts?
@ALXSHARPEN8 ай бұрын
I love mine I use them everyday I have many videos giving my thoughts on them if you look in categories I have probably over 30 I do need to start updating some as many are a few years old and I would like to do some over now that I have better sound and camera gear

Thanks for this. 1 question, my t8 started making a rubbing noise and it certainly sounds like it’s coming from the motor. When I hand turn the motor it’s makes the sound. It was working fine the. All of a sudden it started happening. I had not moved it either. Any thoughts?

I have a brand new Tormek T8 in Australia. Is it normal to make a humming sound when it's not loaded up? Is that just the motor working?
@ALXSHARPEN Жыл бұрын
It does make a little noise but nothing really loud hard to say without hearing it.

@@findonknifesharpening as far as sharpeners go, it's really nice. I mainly use it to set bevels for knives and chisels and then I finish with water stones. Useful for tools too.

If you consider the equipment 'well engineered', why wouldn't you use what the company recommends?
@ALXSHARPEN Жыл бұрын
The company recommends any type of water proof grease not any specific brand that’s why I don’t if they where specific I would have been and I don’t see the correlation to it being well engineered. It’s clearly well engineered no matter what grease is used.
