Thank you very much. I will definitely use this technique on my next mosaic project.

I just thought Colleen that since you don´t have your shop any longer, it should be possible to give me the name of the product you used in this tutorial. You would be helping me a great deal because Pentart is quite different. Thank you so much.
@colleenseymourcrafts58024 ай бұрын
@@marlenehollmann8769 The reason I suggested Pentart is because the product I used is not available in Germany. It is called Dala antique crackle.

would you get a transparent crackle effect if you used clear glue as the under base and clear glaze paint as a top coat?
@colleenseymourcrafts5802 Жыл бұрын
I haven't tried that. It does work if you it clear glue down and paint over. I think I would glue a picture on a piece of card and test it to put your mind at rest. Let me know what happens.

This is exactly what I was wondering. Did you try it?
@colleenseymourcrafts5802 Жыл бұрын
@@debraquantmeyer7483 yes...the results were a bit milky for me.🤔 I think it also depends on the opacity of the glue.

I did try this. I found it peeled away more than creating a crackke effect

Would it be possible to purchase crackle medium from you? I live in Germany and haven´t found a crackle medium to apply over a painting.
@colleenseymourcrafts58024 ай бұрын
Hi Marlene I don't have a shop anymore but I have seen a two step crackle product by Pentart which is based in the EU. You should be able to buy this on Etsy or Amazon. I hope this is helpful.

Can you use some sort of crackle to make a regular photograph look vintage?
@colleenseymourcrafts5802 Жыл бұрын
Yes you can use this same crackle I used in the video for a photograph BUT make a photocopy of the photograph as in my experience the crackle medium sometimes alters the colour of a photograph ( toner vs ink I think is why it happens). A photocopy is also eaaier to work with. You will look for a two part transparent crackle medium...don't buy one that says you must apply a layer of paint...that's a different crackle process. I hope this helps.

Hi Colleen, Great tut. I want to apply a crackle effect onto a plexiglass print. I believe I have to use solvent based materials. Is this true? Any advice would be great thank you. Steve
@colleenseymourcrafts58024 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve you can use all water-based products up until the varnish stage...this must be solvent based as the antique crackle product is sensitive to moisture. I hope that this answers your question. If not get back to me.
@PROgaming-fm6yu4 жыл бұрын
@@colleenseymourcrafts5802 Thanks for the speedy response Colleen. So let me get this right.... I will apply the two coats for the crackle effect. Then apply the gold solvent to fill in the cracks. then apply a varnish to protect it all? thanks again Steve
@colleenseymourcrafts58024 жыл бұрын
@@PROgaming-fm6yu yes that's correct First later is your Transfer Glaze/ Base Coat....Second is Antique Crackle....normally a thick liquid and needs 24 hrs to dry...then colour with an oil based colour e.g. gold golding paste....lastly you apply your oil based varnish and leave it to dry.

Is this good for tin type images?
@colleenseymourcrafts580218 күн бұрын
Yes, you can do this type of crackle over images printed on a tin. Just be careful that your tin image colors are not too dark otherwise, the crackle will be hard to see. Make sure that you don't buy crackle medium that uses paint as a base layer. This will cover your image on the tin.
@ramonortiz746217 күн бұрын
@colleenseymourcrafts5802 I was looking for a way to stop crackle on tin type pictures. I think I had the wrong video. There are tiny little cracks on some antique tin types I have and I was investigating a sort of covering that would stop further damage like a sort of lacquer or coating.

Why can't you use clear acrylic over the paper then use a water base one step crackle medium? Is there a way to get the paper itself to crackle and show the color underneath? Yours was one of the only videos where I got to see someone actually put crackle effect on paper, rather than leaving the image intact with crackle behind it. Thank you!
@colleenseymourcrafts5802 Жыл бұрын
There are two different crackle techniques. One....crackle one paint colour over a base color. You would need to glue your pictures on top of this otherwise you would not see them. Two...antique crackle where you use two clear products (which react with each other) on top of the image to give it a vintage look. This gives you the veins which you can color to accentuate them.

Hello. I have noticed you said that the top crackle coat is sensitive to water. I have the 'first edition deco mache crackle' and it says it is water resistant after dry. Do you think I can use this one and then varnish it with another water based deco mache glue&varnish? Thanks.
@colleenseymourcrafts58023 жыл бұрын
Hi there... I have tried to find some info regarding your specific products on the Trimcraft website and The Craft Blog (their blog). The labels on the bottles are not shown clearly and the instructions are a bit vague. I would assume that if they say it is water resistant when dry then it should be.......however I always encourage my students to do a sample board as a test first . For this you could simply paint an old placemat, or the a piece of thick card, and test this out. It is helpful to do this as it will show you how big the crackle will be. Generally the thinner that you apply the products the finer the cracks...the thicker you apply the products the larger the cracks. In your case it would also help to confirm that this product is definitely water resistant. If you don't want to go this route then you could spray some artists fixative or hairspray over the last crackle layer which would seal it, and then put your water-based varnish over that. I hope that this is helpful to you.

Great video , lovely outcome but I watched the whole video to see how to crackle paper, which was pictured in the image . You did not crackle the paper so it was sort of a waste of my time.
@colleenseymourcrafts58022 жыл бұрын
Bless you. This is a crackle method used for decoupage. The pictures of the roses are paper which have been glued onto the tray. This clear crackle is used over the pictures so you can see the pictures. There are other crackle videos which I've done but these crackle paint over a surface. You would be able to use this crackle method on card rather than a sheet of paper, because the paper would curl. I hope this helps. If not give me a shout and I'll try to explain it better.
