So in resume; if I wanna go from 48v to 72v I would need.... a 72v battery, a controller that can deal with that voltage (or upgrading the capacitators/mosfets of the one I have), a thicker phase cable (like you are doing), and... Telling to the display that the wheel size is smaller than actually is, so it sends more voltage, correct? That's a lot of work! It's incredible you managed to do it.

Jerry, it's really simple nowadays to build a battery, even without soldering, & they have kits that you just push the batteries into & bolt all together. Your definitely a smart enough dude to take it on, & you'd get 35-70 miles on 48v/20ah battery, depending on the weight of bike & passenger together

Can I build an 108v some odd battery? I want to know what my limitations are on that end. I ride a 48v 500w ebike, I know I'd have to change the controller units. And probably a motor upgrade if I want that balls to the wall.
@JamiePineappleWyatt4 жыл бұрын
Hey man, sick job on the phase upgrades! You should get your hands on some nice thick copper wire and re wind your motor too, you can get much better power through them with a little more copper density, also don't forget to replace a plastic gear with a metal one on your planetary clutch, it'll stop you from shredding your gears long term ;) Your phase wire upgrade means your windings will get introduced to more current and voltage (efficiency boost) So it makes sense that the windings could heat up more now than previously. (If you're keeping the power low its not much of an issue, but you seem to be the type that would like to juice things a little harder, like myself)

Im sorry to say that just by using a thicker phase wires one can never ever double the motor power. Never. To be able to have a more powerful motor system you need to upgrade the controller with a more powerful one so it allows more current to flow towards the motor otherwise your thicker wires wouldnt do you any good. In some cases some smarter controllers can be specifically programmed to deliver more current to the motor resulting an increase in power but judging by the looks of your controller I very much doubt that is of that type.

CHANGE to a geared hub motor if you want more torque, thats the only way to get more torque, as its a direct motor to hub assembly, also upgrade to flat pack lithium cells that provide 40 or 60amps continuous. my pack can push 200amps but my controller only needs 20 amps and it pushes that uphill max and i have no voltage sag. cylindical cells suck thats why most EV vehicles use flat packs, actually my battery is built with those cells worth every penny. i have 36v 2.5kw 70ah per cell, max speed flat throttle only on 20in wheels is 15mph the best part is on hills i maintain 12mph uphill at 20amps.

A beefy battery, a high amp controller, and a way to keep your motor cool? Do some motors just max out at a certain internal rpm? Or is it the gearing of the motor that holds it back? Yes and no. The controller controls the speed, of course, but not the way you think. As I said the controller controls speed not the current. The controller has limitation on current but actually control it. For example, when motor has heavy load like climbing hill, you give full throttle, so the controller has maximum output, but the motor try to drink more current. in that situation, if you have thin wires, the wires burn out, if you replaced thicker wires but has small controller, the controller burn out.
