How To Double Up Wires In Weatherpack Connectors, Needed For Revmaster CDI Ignition

This is the best method I've found for doubling up wires inside a Weatherpack / Seal-All electrical connector. I've been rewiring my Revmaster CDI ignition system, which needed new and MUCH BETTER connectors. Things is, the leads coming out of the CDI box split into 2, going on to companion cylinders.
So, all you have to do is go one size up on your terminals and crimp both wires together inside. The Seal-All connector shells and pins are all the same size, just the crimp area and inside diameter of the silicone seals change.

What "helping fingers" stand are you using when soldering? Did this come included with your soldering set up?

I actually borrowed this one from my day job, the one that came with the soldering kit didn't have the alligator clips. No brand name on it and my Google Fu is lacking... There's some pretty cool "Helping Hands" versions on Amazon though.

@@LeftSeatAdventures What you should do on any of those stands with alligator clips is take some weatherproof heat shrink and put a piece on each side of the alligator clip jaw and shrink it down, It will help protect your wire! Some of those alligator clips are really tight and sharp!

@@NeverEnoughPyro40 Yup, much better idea than the electrical tape. 👍

No reason this should not work. The only problem is that the shrink tubing removes the weather seal. They make heat shrink with sealant inside that will seal the gaps where the two wires touch for installations where weatherproofing is needed.

You're 100% correct on that, and an issue I'll need to address. The tubing with the sealant inside typically bubbles out on each end and I was concerned about having a clearance issue with both crimping the terminal and inside the connector body. Or at least that has been my experience. I've heard of others applying di-electric grease under the tubing, but I have yet to try it myself. I'm also wondering if a non-acetic silicone or liquid electrical tape could do the job...

@@LeftSeatAdventures Usually, you can wipe off the excess sealant while it is still warm. Failing that, it should not be hard to trim a little with a sharp knife. I have used dielectric grease in the past as well as liquid tape under the shrink tube, but they are much messier and probably aren’t nearly as fool-proof as the sealant shrink tube. Anything is probably better than nothing though.

Heat shrink over two wire insulation is still kinda oval. Maybe you should have put that heat shrink partially over bare and twisted conductors, where the Seal-All seal would be?
@LeftSeatAdventures
@LeftSeatAdventures Жыл бұрын
Yea, there's a couple different ways to do it. It held up well for my application, but if they're going to be regularly exposed to the elements than the ends should definitely be sealed somehow. Some heat shrinks have it built in. Silicone or liquid electrical tape would also do the job after the fact.
