Thanks so much - excellent video; I am using these behind the electric brake backing plates on my camping trailer (Aliner). My old wiring method kept leading to fractured wire connections.

Absolutely! They're pretty robust and should have no problems in your application. Just make sure the wiring harness is secured properly and isn't bouncing around. I see the same issue a lot in my day job.

Thanks Matt! Very clear explanation. Now I can install the plug myself on the heated seat of my motorcycle. While driving in winter weather with a toasty warm butt, I will be thanking you! 😂

I wanted to upgrade the electrical connectors on my race car to this type of connector. Your video was very helpful as I've never worked with this type before.

I use a little dish soap mixed in water for the seals. Works as well as the silicon lubes and is much less messy after it dries.

If you do a lot of these, it is worth the extra money to buy the crimper that does both wire and seal in one operation. Fast and neat.

O that's very interesting, I haven't seen them yet. Who makes them? I've been doing Metripack connectors on the job recently, different terminal type but same crimping operation as the Delphi.

Having a set of pliers with teeth that crimp both at the same time is ideal

Hi Matt, Thank you for the close up video. I really appreciate your excellent instruction. It was very helpful to me. 👍 I have not been able to find any information on which terminal goes to the power source of the circuit. Does Male connector with the Female terminal go toward a circuit power source, or is it the Female connector with the Male terminal the is the voltage power source for a circuit? There must some type of standard to follow for most circuits. Thanks, Dan 😊
@LeftSeatAdventures
@LeftSeatAdventures Жыл бұрын
You're welcome Dan, glad it was helpful! 👍 It really depends on your personal preference and application. I'm not aware of a particular standard for it, maybe someone can chime in. (And I used to work for the company that wrote them 😆 We did testing for automotive manufacturers though who actually wrote their own standards for the connectors and everything else. But I don't remember if they even called this out. Will have to see if I still have a copy...) Sensors, for example, will typically be a female plug with the power/ signal side being male. If you're replacing a factory connector, set it up how they did for that particular application. If I'm doing 2 harnesses, I reverse them so there's only one way each can go together. One other thing I'll point out is that the male connector body insulates/ protects the female terminals more completely. Perhaps one reason why the male is typically used the permanent circuit side while female is on expendable/ wearable component side. It's a very good question though and something I didn't consider at all for these videos. Certainly a good idea for a follow up video if I can find a concrete answer.

@@LeftSeatAdventures Matt, Thank you for the quick response. 👍 Wow, guess thats why I could not find an answer. YES, I would love it if you would do a follow up video. If no concrete answer, then maybe just your logical reasons why you would choose to do it that way. Like you mentioned above, one side is more protected to be sitting with power connected and not mated with the other half of the connector. Thank you for your video instruction... 😃 😊 👍 PS: My application is I'm wiring side, rear and strobe lights to a tractor. So there will be a few 2 pole and 3 pole connectors on each side of the tractor.

What size (AWG) of the wire that you used? Thank you!
@LeftSeatAdventures
@LeftSeatAdventures Жыл бұрын
These were done with 18ga wire. One of the reasons I like the Seal-All brand is that they have 3 different size seals to match the wire gauge you're using. 14-16, 18-20, 22-24. I believe they have an option on their site for heavier as well.
