Here’s another tip: Change the MTU to 1500, this allows the switch to download bigger download packets from what I know.

1500 is default. It does help but only with packets. The system will send less packets per MB so it helps with overhead. If you set it to like 200 it has to send 8 packets which each packet has a small percent of overhead. The reason why gigabit internet is only 940mbps etc... So it helps but the default is around 1500. Also if you go too big (if your internet is pppoe and needs 1492) you have to fragment every packet which doubles the overhead. Slowing it a bit. (greater than recommended say 1500 when you need 1492, is the same as 750)

If you pay for a decent internet you don't have to worry about using a public DNS. This is for people who are trying to take the cheap way out. Using a public DNS is not always consistent either.

DNS is like a phone book for the internet. It has nothing to do with speed except in looking up domains. So no reason this would effect speed.
