92 y.o. Mom lives alone 700 miles from us. Crucial that her Keurig works for her every morning. She's had the 2.0 for 6 yrs, but we're concerned it can quit on her any time, and she'd suffer w/o it. Purchased and set up a new Keurig for her, but want to keep 2.0 as an emergency spare, since it still works. Didn't want to risk mold issues from long-term storage in a hot garage. This was the only video I found that CLEARLY explained and showed, STEP-BY-STEP, exactly how to open it up and drain it completely. Thanks a million for helping me succeed in prepping the 2.0 for safe and dry long-term storage. You are not only a smart repairman, but an excellent instructor as well!

Thanks for the great video.No need for all the disassembly. Simply run a few cycles of RV antifreeze through the unit. Before putting the Keurig back in service run a few cycles of fresh water through it. Done.I did use your video to help in the disassembly of my Keurig to gain access to the hose that supplies the needle. I then used an adult ear syringe filled with water and a compressor to clear the line. All sorts of junk came out including what looks like a curled up section of wire insulation. Solved my issue of a High Water Pressure message.

Whoa! Now there's a man that knows what he is doing. The machine is quite complex for what all it does, and is nicely engineered to come apart with only a few screws. I scratched a bald spot when I reassembled mine.

Finally a video that is clear and precise leaving nothing to question as far as how to take it it apart to drain. My question is for cleaning. Ours has been sitting with water in it for about three years. How would I clean this after draining to ensure any mold, mildew, or other harmful bacteria is gone? Or, do I need to just buy a new one? Thank you for any help!

Running the descaling procedure with distilled white vinegar should do the trick. It takes 2-3 tanks of water following the vinegar to get rid of traces of the vinegar.

Thanks a lot for your very informative video. "Assumed" all the water was out of the system when the display asked for more water. Was able to follow step by step and drained all the water out of my Keurig K2.0-500 for an extended storage. People, this works!

Having a 2.0 problem I searched for an hour before finding your tutorial. My pump runs but doesn't seem to be pushing or drawing water. Checked everywhere for a clog and nothing. I'm thinking the pump diaphragm is faulty. Thank you for posting this very insightful video, cheers.

You describe symptoms of a clogged needle, which has happened a couple of times with my unit. I use a syringe attached to the tubing that runs from the top of the tank (11:07 in the video) to the needle to forcibly flush out the coffee grounds that plug up the needle. I fill the syringe with water and inject the water into the hose that comes off the top of the reservoir. It can be quite satisfying to feel the pressure drop quite suddenly as the plug flies out end of the needle.

This seems to be an optional exercise in dexterity. An 10 minute alternate procedure for those who don't need to demonstrate their skills is; Remove the water tank, open the brew head, remove any k-cup, empty kitchen sink, remove strainer/stopper/plug, place rounded end of brew head in kitchen sink drain, LCD panel to faucet/rear side (not readily visible), rest machine body to right/front. Water will dribble out for several minutes. Lift machine vertically and tip so that the body rests left/front of sink. It's important to have the unit angled so that water drains without flooding the touch screen. Water will dribble out very briefly. Lift machine, while still inverted fully, rock side to side 45 degrees to vertical then 90 degrees to remove the last drops of water. Feel free to rock in any additional directions, shake, etc., I didn't extract any more water, but my water doesn't leave scale and units with scale may be more difficult. This is enough to transport/ship or store the machine. You shouldn't need to get every part bone dry to prevent mold in storage, the internal components are non-nutritive to fungal growth. If you pre-heat the machine before draining it, the hot water and the residual heat from the heating chamber accelerate the evaporation of remaining traces of water, at the risk of dribbling a few drops of hot water on yourself while inverting the machine.

Oliver Street I took mine apart just to see how it worked. Lol. I wouldn't do that just to keep it from freezing. I'd just store it in a place that wouldn't freeze. 😅
@fit4lifelucky16 жыл бұрын
I like to think I could/ can do this, but Oliver street has a better idea. I just want to empty as much as I can do i can store it for a while. Going back to regular coffee machine. May end up donating this at some point. Freezing is not a worry, but mold is a concern in Hawaii.

Safety Question. When you first turn on the Kuerig (out of the box) it runs a one time startup program and primes the tank with water before heating. Seems like once the first initial startup occurs it then starts heating immediately once switched on thereafter. Does it know the tank is dry and reload the priming sequence or will it simply try to heat an empty tank assuming it's full from the last time it was used (unsafe)?
@drvinson89477 жыл бұрын
Ryan96se I'd have to read the manual but I'd just reset to factory settings. However there is a pressure transducer on the main green board. Could be in the code to test for "inches of H2O" as well as over pressure. I would think as many bells and whistles this thing has there is probably a safety circuit to keep the coils from burning up in a dry kettle. If I can tap into the source code I'll repost an answer. 😅

It primes automatically as needed. It appears to know if the reservoir is empty and if it's not at brewing temperature.

Hello! I really need help and I hope someone is seeing this. I bought this machine from someone and supposedly it's working prior. I placed it in my car when it was delivered. It was a really cold (single digits) night and I think the residual water froze. First issue is that I think it cracked the filter. I placed silicone and now it has stopped leaking. 2. Now it won't put out 6oz of water if I just use it to pump hot water into a cup. Looking at the nozzle on top of the pre heat unit, it looks like the water is minimal and stuggling to get up into the dispensary area. What do you think is not functional? Thank you!
@whidbeyben Жыл бұрын
If it's not pumping hot water out, the most likely problem in a used unit is a clogged needle. Flushing the needle with a syringe filled with water through the hose that comes out the top of the reservoir (11:07 in the video to see the hose in question) should clear up the obstruction.

This is absolutely not worth the effort I am throwing this piece of shit away and buying mr. Coffee and that's what I'm going to take on my trips because it doesn't take 20 minutes to drain it this video has been shortened a few times to get it under 15 what a waste of time or you could just store it with the little tiny bit of water in the reservoir and then just run a 12 to 16 oz cup of water to flush it when you're ready to use. Keurig should have put a more simple plug on these for draining.
