Another FANTASTIC tip!...especially noting that a toss without the full swing is not the same as when you figure to hit the ball. Someone is going to have to mention though about the players who arc their toss so even the good ones would land funny, not under the contact point like when it goes straight up and down.

Yeah, like when you toss for a topspin serve and the ball lands on your head! Do we note WHERE it hits your head, ie forehead, nose, top-dead-centre, or even occiput? (bump at the back of the head, just showing off)

So are you saying that, unconsciously, you will become better at making consistent, well-placed ball tosses? Or is this simply a way of learning to recognize bad tosses earlier? I have the bad habit of hitting bad tosses, but I have a (probably-less-than-optimal) work around: I will actually decide which type of service to hit based on the toss (!). Over my head = topspin, low and/or out wide = slice, and (on those rare occasions where it’s perfect) optimal placement = flat. It works well, for me at least, but mostly on first serves. Whereas I can hit a slice 2nd serve instead of a topspin, flat is/should be out of the question. Just my maladaptive 2 cents.

Lower toss seems to be easier to achieve consistency to place in front. 🤷

I've done this before and it helps but it didn't solve my consistency problem. Really the only thing that worked for me is to practice everyday until it becomes muscle memory.

Hi Wally, are you sure that you have been practicing the drill where you identify the good, or bad ball toss before the ball lands? I've never seen it demonstrated online and so if you have, great. But you'll be the first person I've met who has ever done this, before I demonstrated it. Thanks for supporting the channel Steve
