Great video, I was recommended your channel from a hiring manager at my company. I've clearly been doing a lot wrong with both my resume and interviews, so all your videos have been really eye opening. Really appreciate the content you have put out.

It would be great if you could do a video for people changing careers from healthcare into IT. How do we relate on a resume the skills and creativity we have in healthcare that translate into IT potential? Your videos are great, thank you!

Mr. Georgevich, I really enjoy your videos and have taken many notes while watching several of them. After 21 years with a big Pharma, I will shortly be "released" (along with the entire group) after a company reorganization. I haven't needed to update my resume' or interview in 21yrs and your videos are helping to guide me thru the process. Thank you kindly for posting.

This is so helpful. I have been using an outdated resume for YEARS and kept wondering why I rarely received callbacks when trying to find new gigs and finally figured out my resume needs to be updated.

I think you're idea of having a "professional summary" section rather than a skills section is great. I've never liked the idea of just having a list of hard skills and soft skills just jumbled together.

similar to what chatgpt recomand. the difference is that chatgpt didn't quite explain the notion well unless you ask them a very specific way. Good job. Do you a video about cross fields cv? like IT to sales/non-tech role?

Objective is a waste of space and no longer needed. Your objective is obviously a job, particularly the one you just applied for
@DonGeorgevich Жыл бұрын
of course your objective is a job if you want to be a fry cook at McDonalds. But I'm guessing that most people want more than a job, but a career, and that's where communicating what you're looking for early on is to your advantage, whether you choose to take the advantage or save space on your resume, is entirely up to you. but I'm guessing that since you're here and watching this video to improve your resume, that you're looking for an edge over everyone else.
@isabelaaguiar8012 Жыл бұрын
Not to mention recruiters see and analyse dozens of resumes everyday (sometimes to various positions), putting a clear objective help them understand your application and handle it in a more effective way.

you hit the nail on the head with that one...

Yeah, I have a retail resume, a warehouse one and ones for various companies which I send lots of applications to. I don’t have the objective on it as I am not looking for a career at this point. I also have not included the address although they still want to know where you currently live in the job profile. I don’t have enough quantifiable results at this point to include on my resume. I may list skills but that is the stage I am at. So, people know which industry I am applying for based on the resume, I include.

Hey Don, I was wondering. The point with adding the objective. Would you need to change your objective based on the kind of job you're applying for? Or is the objective kept the same for what you want to do in the long run?

Hi Don, I was let go by my employer after 5 months, do you think I need to keep that work position on my resume, I have been applying to jobs, but I am not getting any responses. I do know that by this time of the year, many companies have many employees on summer break and it is harder to get hired.

if you were let go for any reason never disclose that. Lie to them. they have no issues with lying to you. theyre not looking for humans, they are looking for robots.

Interesting as this goes against a publication this year by harvard and their recommendations on ideal resumes and cover letters
@DonGeorgevich Жыл бұрын
This is not just my opinion, I've spoke with many executive recruiters who favor the objective. so you you can either listen to people who are in the business of hiring or educating, or just do what you feel is best for yourself. Preferably the latter.
@Stephanie-dp3us Жыл бұрын
@@DonGeorgevich I’m not knocking you’re advice as I have worked in HR and was a hiring manager, as well. Just making an observation. Coming from a healthcare admin standpoint it’s interesting to hear and see everyone’s views on great cover letters and résumés.

What if I have the skills the job is looking for, but don't have results like you listed in the professional summary? I have mostly done self study to try to become a data analyst, so don't have any applicable experience.
@DonGeorgevich Жыл бұрын
that's usually why people just list skills by themselves, and imho, skills out of context are not as valuable as when they are put in context. but for you, do the best you can to put your skills in some kind of context

@DonGeorgevich Жыл бұрын
don't have linkedin, don't worry about. it's definitely not a deal breaker.
@skygunner777 Жыл бұрын
It depends on the position you are seeking and the system the recruiter or human resources department uses. I agree ultimately with Don however: it rarely matters as much as crafting a solid resume as most of the information on a CV is just duplicated on Linked IN.
@skygunner777 Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I thought that the old Objective statement would come back to resumes due to the mutual benefit the statement of intention holds.

For the objective, is it necessary to add "Objective" word? How about removing "Objective" and just mentioning the job title that I'm applying for, such as "Electrical Engineer with 5+ years of experience"?
@DonGeorgevich Жыл бұрын
not quite. saying "Electrical Engineer with 5+ years of experience" is saying what you are, but you want to say what you are looking for, e.g., "Seeking a nano tech Electrical Engineer position in the energy sector" Now, I don't even know if that statement makes technical sense, but it's the right framework.
