Hey Matt, I love your instructions so much, only this one, the speed of speaking and drawing is very unsettling to me. I highly appreciate your work and how much you inspired my artistic senses back.💕

I set the speed on this one to 0.75 and found it much better.

A reference photo!!! Oh thank God!! I used to think that it was cheating. I am so glad to see a artist of your talent uses them. I just have to learn more of the grid technique.
@rebekah13622 жыл бұрын
Tbh most artists use reference photos. Sketching from life is of course a great experience for learning and teaching as well but who has all that time? Especially when you have deadlines to meet. Besides, you just want to live your life, am I right? LOL You're definitely NOT cheating using a reference. You're being strategic. ;-) Happy drawing!

I don't know who told you not to use a reference photo when doing realism but they're clearly delusional or not doing realism. How can you accurately gauge the shadows and highlights, proportions and details without a reference? It's ludicrous! Using a reference photo is crucial.

No one creates art from memory, and if they do it is because they've memorized how to do certain subjects from doing them so much, by using references. Even artists that create characters and creatures and original compositions use a variety of references to create their piece. The only people that think that using a reference is cheating is people that haven't picked up a pencil in their life.

LOVED LOVED LOVED this…I also am a “layerer” even with Prismas. I tell people all the time, layer, layer and layer some more. MOST do not get it, especially with Prismas, but then don’t understand why they don’t get the results they want. I also encourage them to experiment with layering different colors together. I keep telling them, the more layers you can do, the more depth you will get, the more depth you get, the more realistic the image will look. (A few eventually finally get it, especially if they want to improve their coloring, but unfortunately, most don’t.) The only thing I didn’t care for in this, is the colorless blender part. I personally hate the Prisma blender pencil and if or when I use a blender, it’s the Caran d’ Ache one. I think it works much better, but that is me. Some people hate it, others love it!

Beautiful drawing and very helpful instruction on how to use colored pencils. I would love to see you draw something space-themed with the colored pencils, like a nebula or supernova. I think you could get some interesting results!

The peony is beautiful, but is there a reason for the colored petals being striated? I couldn’t see the reference photo that well, but the flower didn’t look striated. Thanks.
