@Engineer4Free5 жыл бұрын
Hey Lisset, this one is a bit more complex: www.engineer4free.com/4/use-forward-and-backward-pass-to-determine-project-duration-and-critical-path also just try browsing through all the videos at engineer4free.com/project-management =)

What if 2 or 3 activities have no predecessor and must be calculated with the 6 boxes style? What do you use to start the diagram?
@Engineer4Free6 жыл бұрын
Every activity that has no predecessor will have an ES = 0. They will all be the left-most boxes in the finished network diagram. Say there are three activities with no predecessor, draw all three on the left of the page sort of "stacked" like how B is above C in this video. Then start drawing the arrows to their successors going to the right. It helps to do a rough sketch of the shape like I do in the video because you may have to adjust your layout once or twice to reduce arrows crossing over each other. When you do the forward and backward pass, at least one of the initial activities will end up having a LS = 0. That indicates it's on the critical path, if the two others lets say don't have LS = 0, that's okay, it just means they are not on the critical path. At least one must have LS = 0 though, otherwise you will know that an error has been made somewhere.

what is the precise software or tool can i use to construct a network diagram the way you constructed yours?
@Engineer4Free5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, my diagram is hand drawn, I just used a lot of copy/paste and some video editing tricks to speed it up. You can find a list of all the hardware and software that I use in the videos here: engineer4free.com/tools , but you won’t find any PM specific software in there

God bless you sir!!

Thanks Kenneth! The full playlist is here: engineer4free.com/project-management =)
@sibusisojohn83783 жыл бұрын
what software are you using ? that has node function
@Engineer4Free3 жыл бұрын
It's just hand drawn in Sketchbook. I made a node template and just copy paste... It's not a real PM software. But if your interested, here's a list of all the hardware and software that I use to make the videos; engineer4free.com/tools

Have you ever seen a PERT question which has a pending activity and a following activity after that?
@Engineer4Free4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, I’m not sure what you’re describing. I do have some videos on PERT in the last section of engineer4free.com/project-management but not sure if they cover what you’re after.

what is the critical path for this project?
@xgvhdzschris2 жыл бұрын
I've missed a few clases where my lecturer was teaching this supposedly now I have an exercise. How would the chart look if A-; B - ; C-;D -A ; E -B;F -C; G -C; H -E,F ;I - G;J -H,I ?
@deondraedwards38805 жыл бұрын
WHY DO YOU HAVE TO DO THE FLOWCHART IN THAT MANNER? IF A LETTER CAN'T GO ON BEFORE ANOTHER IS COMPLETE WOULDN'T IT BE OK TO DO THE FLOW CHART IN A STRAIGHT LINE?
@Engineer4Free5 жыл бұрын
If every activity only has one successor and they go in order then it would be a straight line but that's not always the case. Always draw a rough sketch and see if it makes sense before proceeding.
@ninaruiz54865 жыл бұрын

this is very primitive example because in real life unlikely somewhere on the project we will have only one predecessors. As a rule we will have more than one, that is why to build diagram with several activity predecessors more complicated. So what sense to show so primitive diagram?
@Engineer4Free5 жыл бұрын
This is part of a large series of PM tutorials, and is the first example in the full course where I introduce these diagrams. So I use a simple example to demonstrate the point. Check out the whole course at engineer4free.com/project management and specifically video 22 for a more complicated example.
