I’ve been explaining and showing this process to students in public and private schools as a full time art teacher going on 16 years. This one video may be the best explanation of drawing I have ever seen. Rock on dude.

Thank you so much for this video. Yesterday, I had an art exam and we needed to draw a hand, similar to this one, only at a different angle. Every day before the exam, I would practice this drawing, and the hard work definitely paid off. I used the same method with the simple shapes, and I was very impressed with my final products. Hopefully I will get into this school. I will edit this comment when I get the results!

I used this lesson with my sketch class for seniors. Seniors with no drawing experience did a wonderful job. I modeled and helped with minor corrections only. The tutorial is very easy to follow. Just paper, sketch board, eraser, and two sketch pencils. Very realistic and much easier than drawing your own hand, a standard lesson. Karen Robeson

Thank you so much for this video!! As someone that has done cartoony art and stuff, I have never really tried realism. Now with this video you have gifted us with, I feel like I have a black belt in realism and shading. Thank you so much for this, and great drawing too!!

I've never had any luck with putting too much detail into my work too quickly. I always map it out first, just to see what I'm working with and what needs to be adjusted. Great hand video

I'm taking a introductory class for drawing in college and the first day of class my professor walks in and says, "I'm just going to assume all of you all have had a drawing class before". I'm dead. I'm just dead. On top of that our homework is to draw 3 hands a week.

Fantastic tutorial, thank you very much, you're a terrific teacher, finally someone who understand the difference between teaching how and showing how.
Such a simple thing, but seeing the hand as a square plus a triangle has helped, thank you. :-) Now I can draw the thumb a whole lot better than I could before.

There is always an easy way to explain things and a hard way. Teaching someone to draw like a robot is never going to be fun, either for the teacher or the pupil. It will leave them feeling satisfied but not for long, and ultimately they will lose interest. There are a few things important for learning how to draw. The most important thing is looking. Teaching someone how to look (and how to see) is the most crucial. You simply draw what you see. Technique is not important. It's only how to look. The rest is easy. The more you look, the more you see and the more you include the better (or more realistic) the result. The next part is contrast, getting the tones right. Whats the darkest part of the subject, what is the lightest? From there you can work out all the shades in between. The final part is accuracy, which an be solved by measuring at first, until it comes naturally.

I remember being told to shade fingers and such in a circular way (like contours) but your hand looks great even without that. I'm a beginner so now I have no idea what to think :-?. Thanks for sharing your videos they are great.
@jjss4887 жыл бұрын
aCup of Tea - Start with learning circular shading. Use linear once you've mastered circular to add texture where needed.
@ViktorsJournal7 жыл бұрын
Thx. Currently struggling with shading of prespective drawings xD. But I like the circling more than one way lines because I can't get a grip on the control of linear lines it always looks weird when I do it. Well back to practice ;-).

aCup of Tea Hi! I run a drawing tutorial channel and have a site and Udemy course. Never shade in a circular way for anything. Always in a tight consistent zigzag motion. Take a look at my hand drawing upload for tips!

Realistic?? In the drawing you have very dark and very light values on the same side of the hand (thumb vs. wrist). How about learning some basics before making tutorial videos? Try Proko's videos for instance. He knows how to do this properly.
