I use this technique often, using my Museum Aquarelle, supracolor II soft and Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils as a under painting for all my colored pencils. I used to use the Arches and Saunders Waterford hot pressed papers all the time for this technique. But I have come to absolutely favor the Strathmore 500 series heavyweight mixed media board. The surface is very smooth, but very " grippy " it has a nice tooth, with a nice bite. It is 100% cotton and it is about 2-3 mm thick and can handle anything you throw at it... wet or dry. It never buckles and gets wavey, and doesn't need to be taped down even with watercolors. I actually bought the entire color range of the Winsor and Newton pigment markers, and I didn't like them very much... I actually hated them and never used them! Lol, until I started using them as a under painting for my colored pencils on the Strathmore 500 series heavyweight mixed media board. They are lightfast and work amazing as a under paintin as well. Now I actually use them after 3 years of sitting on my studio self collecting dust lol. Great video and sorry for the rambling, I geek out over this stuff 😀 have a great day

Hi Emily ! I’m enjoying watching your painting, could I please have one request, can you show how to paint “lost edge”, I’m painting brown horse, basically the head, the rest of the body fades in to dark almost black background, that transition of horse body I’m trying to achieve, I’d appreciate so very much 🙏🏻♥️

Just looked at the price for the Caran d'Ache Luminance 76 set. STICKER SHOCK!! I think my budget is going to only cover open stock replacement pencils as I use up the colors in my cheaper sets. Darn.

Yes, they’re not cheap! Faber Castell make a great alternative.
