I found the tutorial on monster\demon drawing beyond useful. Once I realized I could just warp the features that I've been drawing for years, the sky was the limit. I've also been drawing animals for years so I simply applied the lesson to animals and the results where pretty awesome. This one lesson has inspired and reinvigorated my interest in drawing like nothing else . I feel like I'm 16 again. I've read dozens of sci-fi and fantasy art books and all they have is the same step by step lessons of someone else's idea of a monster. Not one taught how to create anything original. You are the best online art teacher by light years. 99.99% of all of the so called KZbin art tutorials are just speed drawings of people showing off. They teach NOTHING!!! I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on the same "warping" applied to body anatomy of mutant /monster/demons. I noticed you have a pretty cool slender man painting for example . I had no intentions on making this message this long. It just turned out that way. I'm sure you are very busy teaching the world art. Thank you for your time. You're F-ing awesome.

Monsters and demons, the one area I'm really good at. I've been on a kick lately drawing a bunch of grotesque, eldritch abominations. Tentacles, mouths, and teeth everywhere, even if it doesn't make any anatomical sense. And that's why I love drawing them, you can go absolutely crazy with everything.

The most agonizing part of watching these tutorials is the plethora of stories and animations that unfold in my head when I see the products and I can't do anything about it. Even if I could get to the level of skill required to replicate the characters, I still wouldn't have the time to make it all... Every single drawing gets a story in my head... and I just want that story out of my head and on to the screen. In my thoughts, that's what makes an awesome artist, someone who doesn't tell a story with the images, but let the images create a story in the observer's head. Jazza has succeeded in that!

These are really cool! The only thing that's a shame is that you only go into faces usually and you don't really do anything with the body. Im ok at drawing faces but not at bodies so maybe you should include that in tutorials like this or make a 2 parter like: How to Draw Demons part 1 face and then a part 2 for the bodies? Because you could do so much cool things with the bodies like spikes, horns, wings and claws I'd love to see that included in these videos!

Hey dude, just for future reference for drawing eyes and other facial features, the term for the area where the eye is stationed in the skull is called the socket, and the area around that is called the orbit. Also, I like how you made some of the demons/monsters humanoid. It just... Well as quoted by Hajime Isuyama (author of SNK) the most terrifying thing is what is most familiar to us, and in our case, humans. It just makes it more creepy. Helped me out with designing the monsters in this sick af thing that crawled out of my head, and they all have humanoid features, which made all of them extremely creepy. Thanks for the advice man! I have been subscribed to you since I first got a KZbin account and I've noticed a spike of overall betterness in my work since I started watching your videos. Not my style, but it really helps and I'm getting paid thanks to these tips. Keep being awesome dude!

I actually find in these circumstances when going for something demonic, horrific or grotesque-somewhere along those lines, that asymmetrical designs work relatively stronger than the symmetrical counterpart, purely for the fact that the human eye finds things that have symmetry-more appealing If you're going for an intimidating, monstrous demon who cares not for the puny mortals then get wild with the asymmetric look. For a more rational and intelligent demon, the very human like structure is a great way to go. Nice video jazza :)

A thing about demons is that they have a certain element, something in their nature, in the very name that can barely be drawn correctly. It is a weird in-between-thing of dark magic and a classic monster. I have seen many demon designs, but i rarely find an absolute apex demon design, no matter how well he is executed in different ways. A thing to remember could be their dark magical nature and relation to dark emotions, especially fear. Sometimes the cristian hell demon design with bloody skin, horns, wings and hellfire are not even actually demonic, no matter how terrifying they are. The thing about demons is that they dont have a cultural origin. They are always this sinister part of our minds, lifes and feelings wich we express in many ways. There is no one tru demon design, because there is no one true demon. With dragons, you at least have the reptilic, snaky element, but demons are those vage things between spirit and monster, and i think they should be kept special in that way. So remember that little trick: keep in mind, what your demon stands for, in what scenery it shows up, and how you see the *demonic* element Jeez, i didnt plan to write so much

Even though I know how to draw demons, I want to see how others approach drawing them. I tend to draw demons gaunt, not unlike other characters I draw, and I draw attention to the horns, over exaggerating them. I also tend to draw "animal-skull-heads" rather than the classic, much more human visage

The problem I always run into is making them look organic. You've done a good job with showing how they can sort of develop out of existing bone structure, but for instance take the 'minotaur-ish' horns. How does that look from the back? In your final drawings the bottom left exemplifies what I mean - they seem to just come out of nowhere, like fixtures attached to the head without any under-the-skin basis. I can imagine a cheekbone or brow extending into a horn but it's hard for me to picture really large horns that aren't just sitting on the head.
@goku21youtub9 жыл бұрын
WalterLiddy look at goats and other animals for reference ... they have their horns sitting on the skull but its base is a clump of rings which fade into the heads bone-structure , i bet you can find realistic 3d models so you can look at it from every side and analyze the structure ... also keep in mind its just a visual effect , the few seconds your viewer looks at your monster he won´t begin to analyze the structure it just need to look dangerous , and horns and spikes normally are dangerous.
@WalterLiddy9 жыл бұрын
