@@seamagician7042 usually I just look for a specific part that I'm trying to learn and redraw it from different angles multiple times. If you have a pc you can use sketch fab to get free rotatable 3D models of a specific part and then look at it from multiple angles and redraw it. Eventually you'll just know how the muscles are arranged.

Two excellent artist reference books for the non-average body types: (1) *Morpho: Muscled Bodies* and (2) *Morpho: Fat and Skin Folds* by Michel Lauricella. These books cover male and female body types with hundreds of drawings. With these two books there is no reason to draw the same body type for every character. Even within the same body type there is a lot of variation. One thing that can help is that your characters should be recognizable from their silhouettes. Fill in their outlines with black. Should be easy if you're flatting the colors.

Very clear and concise, not a lot of anatomy tutorials talk about muscle and fat distribution I've found. I will add, though, that as you gain more weight your jaw line does soften and become less pronounced/ neck gets wider. Having a thin neck and jaw on a fatter body isnt super common haha

@hamnerheads6770

this deep dive into body types is really helpful! the only thing i’d like to mention is that boobs do not work irl the way that you’ve drawn them. specifically larger chests NEED to have some kind of over the shoulder support for the majority of the breast tissue to stay in the middle of the ribcage. if left unsupported, most of the mass pools at the bottom of the ribcage
@hoteldelta2453
@hoteldelta2453 Жыл бұрын
He’s drawing them with the idea that you’d be putting clothes over them, had he drawn the boobs with sag, he would’ve then needed to go in to detail about how breast look depending on what they are wearing which would’ve needlessly complicated a tutorial that’s meant to be simple
@abdominalpain6188

as a certified tall girl I can second that with head. You can have a tiny head on a taller body. it's...not the nicest thing if you want to find fitting hats or clothes. character design wise , it's interesting to keep in mind that most girls that are teenagers or young adults will try to make themselves appear more average. i.e. if the head is small compared to the body there is a chance will do something in terms of making the head seem bigger (like with a voluminous hair style for example), which in turn will make the shoulders look less prominent. people that are tall will often make them look smaller while the ones that are rather small might use body language, shoes or clothing to make them appear taller...like they take up more space. like... what makes them deviate from them norm makes shapes the way a character behaves...at least in their formative years. Modifying their behaviour and appearance to fit in among their female peers is important... at the same time they also want to be "not like the other girls"...they want to be average enough to fit in but special enough to be seen, respected and loved. it's a tricky balance. it's not something bad, it's just that humans are social being so having friends and a social group they belong to is important. Once they are a bit more sure about their place in world it's not as visible anymore. I thought I'd mention with because a lot of people draw young women and girls and the psychological aspect of being a teenage/adolescent girl and how their natural body plays into it makes for more believable characters imho.

This is great, one thing to add is that even though in reality our heads are rather similar, they do get proportionate if your genetics align with your body size, Shaq vs Tom Holland for example (and why we have helmet sizes and why very tall individuals are most likely on the L-XL side). Or if you're drawing a "realistic" character that's HUGE and tall their head should remain relatively proportional to their size otherwise it starts looking funny.

I like how you included natural body types not just the ideal hourglass ones or the bottom heavy one. Of course, stylization/exaggeration is perfectly up to the artist but it’s also good to see how to draw a natural looking body you know not just the ones that look the body like the body of Kylie Jenner lol. Nonetheless, great video.
@cafeiketson2653
@cafeiketson2653 Жыл бұрын
I think you need to come out often and make more research about women in different part of the world. The "ideal hourglass" as you mentioned and the bottom heavy exist. I know so many people in real life that look exactly like the one illustrated in this video (Natural ofcourse) even thicker. I'm a Nigerian and in many African countries, women like the ones described above are common. Not only African ladies, I also know many Caucasian, Latinos and some middle Eastern ladies that looked like that as well. The "ideal hourglass" and "bottom heavy" is not a stylization thing, people like that actually exist. A lot of people. Like A LOT
@varonica544
@varonica544 Жыл бұрын
@@cafeiketson2653 your right, i wasnt trying to say there wasn’t, its just that I see lots of artist that draw exaggerated hourglass bodies nothing wrong with it. Im black my mom has an hourglass aswell, its just most people don’t have it some people do but most don’t and I just appreciated the fact that mark included all body types not just the ideal ones because hourglass is pretty ideal or what people feel like they have to look like. So yeah
@cafeiketson2653
@cafeiketson2653 Жыл бұрын
@@varonica544 Okay now I get your point. Of a truth the media tends to make the hourglass or pear shaped body looks like it's the ideal body type for women. And some women out of ignorance begins to feel inferior about their body type. And another thing I've observed is that hourglass and pear shaped ladies are not easy to come across, though there are many of them, they're are not as common as the other body types.
