This is the first out of dozens of tutorials that I have heard slow speed setting recommended on the dremel. I am researching before I trim my dogs nails so I would like to ask you if your preference for using slow speed came about after using higher speed and then slowing it down and finding that the slower speed works better or have you always used slow speed and never attempted it with higher speed? Thanks 😊

We use a slow speed so that we can more carefully monitor how much of the nail we are trimming and to prevent the nails from getting too hot during dremeling. The quick inside the nail is very sensitive so we are trying to avoid getting too close and accidentally cutting it or heating it up and causing discomfort. We have had more success with less stressful dremeling sessions on lower speeds! 🤗 Edit: Our current dremel default is speed 3 and we usually drop down to speed 2.

@@TheStumpyBrigade thank you. I noticed on a lot of other videos that the high speed that was used in their video was a concern for a lot of other people for the very reason you mentioned so it is good to see your video with this addressed and the safer way shown. I think I will take your advice. Thank you again

What type of bit are you using?
@TheStumpyBrigade Жыл бұрын
Just the standard cylindrical bit. It doesn’t need to be a super fine grade or a special shape. We had a pet specific one but the battery died years ago so now we use a standard Dremel on speed 1 or 2. This is a newer version of the kit we currently use for reference from our Amazon store Dremel Lite 7760 N/10 4V Li-Ion Cordless Rotary Tool Variable Speed Multi-Purpose Rotary Tool Kit, USB Charging, Easy Accessory Changes - Perfect For Light-Duty DIY & Crafting a.co/d/fRoulCY (Edit) This might be a corded one but we use a cordless. We can provide a link for that if needed. Hope that helps!

@@TheStumpyBrigade Thank you. We have LARGE (giant?) dogs; so, the "pet" Dremel just didn't work well (the sand paper discs didn't last long enough). I recently bought a nice corded version and many types of bits.

If you need more tips we have a few videos on the topic including what to look for when doing black nails.
