There are also weird rubber/plastic bottom of feet covers. (took me a while to find them, they are called nakefit, which sounds weird but not as much as the things that popped up trying to find out how they were called.) those might be very helpful for anyone wanting to wear a hobbit style out, because at conventions and fairs you still might want to protect the bottom of your feet from cuts

Great tutorial! I have an alternative suggestion to the foot hair, based on a costume I put together for a convention. I've always imagined hobbits as having REALLY hairy feet, because they need that hair to keep warm in the winter! So I ordered werewolf shoe covers from eBay and trimmed them to fit over a pair of sandals (this part was pretty messy - fake fur everywhere). I stitched some yarn onto the sides to keep the shoe covers attached to the sandals. That way I could walk around with the hairy feet and not have to worry about stepping on something painful.

You mentioned something about sticking to earthy tones. I'd like to object- the very first chapter of the book says that hobbits like to wear bright colours, particularly green and yellow. Of course, most of their clothes are functional, for field work and stuff, so brown breeches and white shirts are common, and I'd definitely stay away from any gaudy colours and stick to more natural dyes, but definitely definitely do include colours in your hobbit outfits! Especially green and yellow. (As long as they're not unnatural-looking dyes.)
