I’m born , raised and live in Thailand. You know what people do around here? Just ditch the jacket. Don’t fight the heat. The struggle is real. Unless, you turn up the air conditioning real high which a lot of office do, then you can continue wear whatever you want and just avoid going outside. The people that can do this is a few privilege that live mostly in air conditioning environments switching off in the heat a few minutes in parking lots. And that’s all.

The time that we spent under direct sun is so minimal that I don't even know if i can use the advice in this video. long time southwest climate classic style enthusiast & here’s some things I’ve learned: - Linen & cotton are absolute must. - Roll up your sleeves. The rolled up sleeves on a button up is a classic look, relaxed, comfortable, effortlessly cool. I just can’t see the same outfit looking better with a short sleeve shirt than if you had just rolled up the sleeves. - Leather will get hot! I love leather loafers & dress shoes but if you find yourself outside in sunlight or are a commuter by foot primarily, you may find things getting toasty in the summer, definitely lean on the suede parts of your shoe collection in those moments. - If you ditch the jacket, ditch the tie. Few things looks sillier than a guy in just a shirt & a tie. - If you keep the jacket, incorporate shade. A brimmed hat or perhaps even a parasol if you feel you can pull it off, but of course be prepared to sweat if you catch yourself in the elements for too long! - Check out films like Purple Noon (Alain Delon has immaculate summer style), The Talented Mr. Ripley (both versions have some very tasteful wardrobes), American Gigolo (Richard Gere is shown in some lovely classic attire adapted for the Southern Los Angeles climate).

As someone living in the subtropics, I’d agree with everything you’ve recommended. I’d also add guayabera shirts. These are collard shirts with pockets and usually embroidered floral or geometric patterns in the same colored thread as the shirt fabric. They are designed to be worn untucked and are considered formal wear without a jackets in parts of Latin America. Being untucked gives you more airflow for cooling and they are my go to everyday wear in summer in central Texas. Just be sure to get cotton or linen or mix of the two.

Excellent ! Short-sleeved shirts with w̳i̳t̳h̳ ̳s̳t̳r̳a̳i̳g̳h̳t̳ ̳h̳e̳m̳, meant to be worn untucked, are less frustrating than shirts with "S" shaped hem that frequently become untucked. Now I know there is a name for it, "guayabera shirt". They are more practical and comfortable in hot weather. Also yes, *natural fabric,* 100% if possible. The less % of polyester, the better. Polyester makes for sweat.

finally, someone addresses this. I'm a suit person living in Dallas, Texas. I've been wearing linen shirts, SUITS, blazers, and pants for years. Seersucker, when I can find it. Never considered Madras...didnt know it existed, but i'll now look into it. Linen is at least 20 to 100% more expensive, but it's a strong fabric and lasts for almost a decade (i've only had mine for 7 years, so I cant say a full decade). Still thought it costs more, it's totally worth it in the Texas heat.
@Gent.Z9 ай бұрын
I'm sure you're pretty much an expert after living in Texas! I also find linen shirts more comfortable, even when it's not particularly cold, And I liked the wrinkled texture, it's a little more elegant and nonchalant
@mph72829 ай бұрын
The three best fabrics for hot weather are linen, linen, and…let’s see…linen. As a fellow Texan, I can back you up on this. Yes it wrinkles, but as mentioned, they’re elegant wrinkles, and linen irons very nicely and can take the hottest setting on your iron. It cleans easily and dries quickly. It’s perfect. Seersucker is nice, as it’s also breathable and cool and doesn’t wrinkle. The traditional striped seersucker is bold, but nowadays you can find seersucker in all sorts of solid colors as well if the blue and white is a little too much of a Southern lawyer look for you. Great topic!
@slchance88399 ай бұрын
Thank you both for the comments. What I like about linen is that it gives off a more "Gatsby" vibe than "Boardroom lawyer" vibe, which is important in my line of work, as I need to be well-dressed, but not intimidating. I wear linen in the winter, and it doesnt feel frosty at all. BUT, i wear it with a cashmere or rabbit wool scarf to help keep warm. Is it the best for winter? I cant say: Texas winters cant compare to the more punishing winters of other locations that actually get real snow. But for Dallas, linen is a year-round fabric. Linen suit on linen shirt with loosened silk tie and metal cufflinks (not silk knot cufflinks) is a GREAT combination of casual (linen) with refined (stainless steel or silver). I'm with you on seersucker giving off the southern laywer/Colonel KFC Sanders vibe, but if I tone down the quirk with somber brown shoes, it strikes a good balance.

Canvas sneakers like Supergas or Converse are the worst as your sweat will be absorbed into the cotton fabric and insole and you will have stinky shoes and feet. Only smooth leather insoles and lining will do, anything else will stink.

I live in a tropical climate 8 months of the year. I highly recommend seersucker suits and separates be unlined. Because of the unique properties of seersucker, a lining is really superfluous because the added structure that lining provides is unnecessary and traps heat. An unlined seersucker suit can also be gently laundered instead of dry cleaned. It is also possible to get seersucker fabrics in solids or patterns other than the orthodox seersucker stripe. A gray seersucker stripe is also more versatile and easy on the eye than the standard blue stripe.

in the summer I wear linen pants and shirts, and you're right, linen is the right option for warm weather. but under the shirt, no matter how warm it is, I wear a cotton t-shirt as a sweat absorbent. because of that extra t-shirt, I'm not any warmer than without it, and it helps a lot by absorbing sweat to keep the top shirt in decent condition. for footwear, I recommend shoes whose upper part is at least partially made of mesh material. it is not visually repulsive like sandals, and the air flows freely through the mesh, the openings of which are about 2-3 millimeters wide.

Stumbled across this video and have to correct a statement. Seersucker does NOT originate from New Orleans. It originated in South Asia (Indian subcontinent) and was well known to the Mughal Empire as early as the 1600s. It was then adopted by British colonialists when they arrived for its cool-wearing properties. It was exported by the British around the world, from which it arrived in the American south. The name itself comes from Persian traders, who compared its colored stripes to "milk and sugar" ("shir o shakkar" in Persian, which became "sirsakar" in Hindi, and then "seersucker" in English). The podcast "Lexicon Valley Episode 59" traces this etymology. The "madras" pattern commonly seen in the West has clashing colors, but in South Asia you will find it with much more harmonious color combinations. Madras is the former name of Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu in south India. Respect to those ingenious South Asian textile artisans who came up with these fabrics!

I'm almost certain that Madras is the checked pattern on the fabric, correct me if I am wrong

This video was great since I live in LA. You gave me some new ideas. Love linen shirts. But I do own a herringbone overcoat that i just love. I can barely get a couple months use out if it. But I just love overcoats. Maybe I should move to NYC. Lol

Although this video was excellent, it does have one flaw. You didn't mention sandals in the footwear section. Leather sandals have been worn in the Mediterranean for millennia, and they can be very stylish They are the perfect footwear when wearing shorts. Closed toe shoes are more appropriate when wearing trousers

Do you wear long socks with the desert chukka boots? If so, what do you all recommend?

Yes, normal long socks

Great video! I’m in Australia and had never really considered linen or chukka boots but will have a look down that avenue … One request - do you think you could do a video on style tips for bald men? I love the “Old Money” style, but feel like hair is a big component of that look unfortunately and would like to try and work with what I’ve got

Hmmm, good question! As you can see, I'm no too well qualified to make this video myself. But check out The Chap's Guide. Ash, the host, is a bald man who always looks sharply dressed

I clicked on this video not knowing it was geared towards a male audience but appreciate the tips all the same. I've lived in Houston my whole life and I'm always on the hunt for good fashion advice for hot, humid climates. There's hardly any good advice that keeps hot climates in mind which is frustrating to say the least.

Thank god I live in places where winters get muddy, frozen or even snowy... but the summers are genuenly in need of these tips. I always ended up dressing more like indiana jones than anything XD...but hey colonialist uniforms and explorer gear is just a vibe.

One issue I have had, and maybe it's because I buy "off the rack"...........but they will put an acetate lining or half-lining in a linen jacket or pants. This is silly. Need a cotton or silk or even a linen lining.
