You're absolutely right about the Hendricks Gin and Elderflower Fever Tree. I didn't see the hype about Hendricks until I'd had it with the elderflower and a slice of cucumber. Totally different drink, even compared too my favourite London Dry gins in the elderflower tonic.

I just discovered this channel today and I am enjoying the videos. I have been experimenting with different Gins and drinks during quarantine and have found my favorite Gin drink. It is a Martini made with Bombay Sapphire East Gin, Noily Pratt Dry Vermouth, and a lemon twist, 5 to 1 mix. The lemongrass and black pepper of the Sapphire East melds perfectly with the lemon, my 24 yo daughter who usually turns her nose up at gin thought it was a wonderful drink. Thank you for the very informative 3 videos on Gin.

Your videos are just delightful!! My dad taught me to make him a gin & tonic when I was quite small. Quarter of a lime squeezed and dropped into the bottom of a tall glass, plenty of ice, shot of Tanqueray (always Tanqueray!), topped off with tonic water and gently stirred with a long spoon. He would drink one while he barbecued out on the back porch, and I was so proud to be the bartender! Fever Tree Elderflower is so delicious... this video makes me want to sample the other tonic flavors as well!

There is an Irish "maritime gin" from Donegal called An Dúlamán that uses seaweed in its botanicals, so it actually tastes faintly like seaweed smells or sea air or a beach or something. I had to drink it neat to be sure. It is very odd but I like it. It might be good in a dirty martini perhaps with olive brine

I was drinking a few Tom Collins watching these gin videos lol. I actually really enjoy gin and tonics, that’s pretty much my go too. Fever tree makes very good tonic waters, I’ve also worked into tonic syrups, but I haven’t found one so far that makes me go like “I’ve found it! That’s the one!” Lol. Too be honest the closest I’ve come with tonic waters is the Schwepps tonic water, yellow label, but it has too be in those small fatty bottles. The “same” tonic water in the yellow cans doesn’t even come close for some reason. Yeah for me personally they blow all the others I’ve tried outve the water. So I used the same Tom Collins recipe but subbed Schwepps tonic in the small glass bottles for the soda water, and that makes a hell of a drink. It’s crazy how one can go from one really bad night with whatever no name gin over a decade ago which hexed gin as a spirit, too opening up a new world of flavors and becoming a favorite spirit lol

Absolutely, they’re from just outside of Melbourne. They’ve done a really good job positioning themselves, I now get asked for Four Pillars more often than Hendricks here! Personally I like more savoury gins and they just released an Olive Leaf Gin which is delicious, but they are all tasty 😋

I’m not much of a gin drinker but I do enjoy a negroni. I’ve been using Gordon’s but I do want to try other brands. Particularly a gin that balances out the Campari. Any suggestions? Stick with London dry?
@BehindtheBar4 жыл бұрын
London Dry is definitely a safe bet because some of the modern gins’ botanicals can clash with the Campari and it can all be a bit much. That said, you can’t go wrong with something with a more orangey or grapefruit vibe - Beefeater 24 makes a great Negroni if you want to mix it up just a little, or Tanqueray Sevilla (Tanqueray has the same botanicals as Gordon’a and the Sevilla uses Seville oranges as well 😋). Otherwise if you let me know what country you’re in I might be able to suggest some more boutique ones!

@BehindtheBar4 жыл бұрын
Very true. I’ve actually done a whole video on this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHXEZYd7gM94b6s But unfortunately there is no magic trick. I suggest trying to find smaller bottles of vermouth if you can, otherwise you just have to accept you may not get through a bottle before it turns. I like to use slightly old vermouth in cooking instead of white wine for deglazing etc, and luckily you can find decent dry vermouths which are not too expensive. Either than or drink a heck of a lot of Martinis 😜

Thank you both for a very informative series ! One question: here in Argentina it is somewhat difficult to find good gins without paying exhorbitant prices. The 3 most available ones are Beefeater, Bombay Sapphire and Tanqueray. Is Tanqueray better than the other two? Because I've only seen that one on the show. Thank you!! Greetings from Argentina
@BehindtheBar4 жыл бұрын
Not at all! Honestly, my bar is contracted to Diageo in the rail and so that’s the one I always grab to illustrate London Dry style, but Beefeater is also a great example of that citrus and juniper forward flavour. Bombay Sapphire is a modern style gin, much lighter in flavour (less juniper) to make it appeal to non gin drinkers, so it works really well in light and delicate cocktails- you can make a delicious wet martini, or something like the white lady or east side would work well too 😊 some ideas for you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rl6aqmasl81nndU
