Just wanted to say I did my hc road ranger today (10/7/24) I watched this 5 times. Then went and did my licence, my instructor thought I knew how to drive one.(I definitely didn't) I said I just watched KZbin. So this information definitely works and I really encourage everyone to watch and actually listen to what he says it helped me so much

I'm wondering, will a trucker in your country feel a difference in how the engine "pulls" when you have FOUR trailers hooked up? They never hook up more than two per rig in my country and those are actually only 10 meters long, not 16 (total length is 20 meters).

Many of the comments here are about how synchromesh and automatic transmissions are "better" than RoadRanger transmissions. The fact is RoadRangers are significantly simpler and therefore cheaper than most other types. You can buy a whole brand new 1850 ft/lb rated RR for less than the cost of a gasket, bearing and seal kit for a ZF heavy truck transmission! They are easy to use, strong, efficient and when they reach the end of their considerable lifespan - they are incredibly cheap and easy to rebuild. "Better" is subjective to the user, but there is no arguing with the economics. They are the most common heavy truck transmission in the world and if your intended career is truck driving, then this video is an excellent introduction to a valuable, employable skill to have.

When I ask for a deeper explanation of the concept he says 'you'll be right mate, you just need more practice.' Agghhh, but practice what exactly? @toms40224 жыл бұрын
A lot of people forget to mention with Eaton fuller non synchro gear boxes, when you press the clutch all the way to the floor it stops the gears spinning which is why it will grind when you shift or it will be tight to shift, So you should only use full clutch from a standing start to select a gear that's what it was designed for. Use just over half the clutch pedal for shifting once you are moving. I think understanding how this gear box works will greatly help any beginner

Very good. Am currently doing my HR licence and learning this gearbox has been the hardest part, letting go of the stick has been an issue for me. Finishing the course next week, road positioning and reverse parking was a breeze. Watching this and practicing ( as well as you can do in a lounge chair with a remote as a gear stick ) will help wonders. One significant thing is taking up slack on the gear stick prior to moving it when you push the clutch. 👍

Worked with a bloke that insisted that floating was for the pros and double clutching was for wimps. Watched him absolutely destroy the gearbox trying to prove that point. I personally do both, pretty much whatever the truck is happy to do. Failed a float, I'll fix it with a Double, not argue with it while dealing with traffic. At the end of the day, double clutching or floating, as long as your changing the gears cleanly your a good driver. If your more worried about your 'coolness' factor than operating the truck cleanly and safely, your in the wrong profession.
