Im 6 ft and quite strong and 81kg. I used to find driving hard so I used to avoid it and just take a mid range jumper or take a jumper and then go for the rebound or just pass and go for the rebound and try to post. What I realised was that I wasn’t confident enough to drive because I hadn’t trained to shoot or rather release the ball by various methods. My first coach of many years always discouraged flashy one handed shots, reverse layups and things like that so I’d never gotten into trying those things. But after watching NBA thoroughly and watching these training videos helped a lot. Now I can easily beat 2 defenders and atleast attempt the shot from under the basket if not score. It’s all about continuously learning more and training for more.
@tropiqal69872 жыл бұрын
exact same bro, how u doing 3 years later and any tips for an amateur player who is 6ft 80 kgs
@burzum83122 жыл бұрын
@@tropiqal6987 Hey man, What I learnt is this: 1. You gotta train hard. Your whole body needs to be conditioned to play and beat defenders thorughout the game. Medium distance running, sprints, explosive movement training like depth jumps, tuck jumps and side to side jumps is key. Or else you just wouldn't be able to move quickly with ease. Have to add weights to this as you train more and more. 2. Making your back, especially lower back very strong is important. Your whole upper body control is based on your lower back strength. Curry does 120kg deadlifts. 3. Increase shoulder strength to easily hold off or slightly push away defenders. For this you need lower back strength too. 4. Working on your core (abs and back) helps A LOT in maintaining stability and to be able to do off balance layups and tough fadeaways.

On the court, i do drills like slow dribble quick transition into explosive dribbles,explosive layup drives,hesi into explosive blow bys and crossover to explosive blow bys. It works great for me. This drills are focused on you being able to shift to an explosive speed to drive to the basket.

No one can master a DEADLY drive without not getting blocked even once at the practice. Don't be afraid to get blocked. I had those hard days, I got blocked every time, but now, I can beat anybody using my body and agility, laying the ball up banking it in. It's a whole different story when in games though, however ask your friend to play 1 v 1. It's okay to get blocked multiple times, but will to improve and stay positive. That's all. Peace.
