At the end of the day, the most important thing about defense is actually trying and having enough energy to chase ppl around for a long time
@maxdurk46244 жыл бұрын
DANtheMANofSIPA No, its intelligence and chemistry. Knowing coverages and where to be off ball is more important than anything you could do on ball.
@marcusfraser27904 жыл бұрын
Max Durk yeah but what the dude's trying to say is that being fit and having endurance goes a long way in being a good defender. It's great being intelligent and knowing where you should be but if you ain't got the energy and drive to keep on running, knowledge ain't doing jackshite for you

What I do as a GOOD defender( ppl tell me im a good defender) When defending, my knees are bent and in some situation I pivot my foot back and front, side ways. My footwork is pretty decent, I Hardly mess up myself and really helps in adjusting to the opponents moves. Don't just stand and defend. When unsure of what the person will do i keep a hand close to the ball or at them to navigate and anticipated pressure on them. Helps me keep a hand on them assisting me when they decide to drive or make a move, my arm is there in their way. If I am more on 1 side on the court. lets say left side. I put my right foot infront so I'm kind of in an angle. This makes it easier to force the player into 1 way and become easier to defend. When contesting a shot, If I am close enough to the opposition I will jump high and put my arms up to scare them and shaken up their confidence. If they manage to create space for a jumper, I run towards them with my hands up( no jumping) as a last resort as there isnt anything to rlly do. You wanna contest every shot, close, far, even if they beat u by a bit. Trust it really helps Play a bit physical, it's hard to be a good defender and not physical at all. It provides pressure, it doesn't allow them to do what they want especially things they are comfortable with, which makes them uncomfortable and uneasy when on offense. Helps also To block shots & contest shots Don't bite on every move they do. Many people like to spam dribble or hit you with a counter dribble every time. If they make 4 dribble moves, defend on 2 or 1. You'll be surprised how much easier it is when you aren't trying to guess and navigate every slight move. Let's say you trying to be really precise on defending, all it will do is become easier to go by. Faints, fake pass, hesi, especially by people who know how to do it, will always trick up Lastly when driving,always put your body to your defender and keep your hands up. Driving is the one thing where you can put the most contact on a player than anywhere else. So use it, and do it all them time when someone drives. If they go pass you. Slack of your hands on them and time a block or a contested hand on their layup/drive Thanks for reading XD👍

good explanation! quick question, how do you defend if someone is doing a spin move, ive always wondered it because they get past me so easily
@Timzy2Drip Жыл бұрын
@@ALIEN.0708 Personally, I don't guard too close or too far EVER. In the middle. But you should aim to scare, or contest a shot after a spin move, as the person doesn't have enough time to recover and finish well. Sometimes the person can just beat you, but it's how u recover.

I totally agree with all you said, but what sucks as someone that plays defense with all my heart, is being surrounded by teammates that show less than half effort I make, especially when playing pick up I get that it's not always everyone's thing to play defense, but the least you can do is find a role, rebound, contest for the ball, avoid the offense getting to the paint, something. Not just linger and wait to receive the ball when we go on offense. Not cool
