This is the last video you ever need to watch on how to drop shot fish for bass. It's nothing but Aaron Martens walking you through the how and why to fish a drop shot and how to approach the fish and the tackle, options and more. It's long but worth 10 minutes of your time to understand how he's had more success with a drop shot than any professional angler in the history of bass fishing.

Tried drop shot for the first time today while I started my week long vacation. Fantastic results 5 hours fishing 8 fish with the largest just over 4 lbs. Used a 6 inch Roboworm FX in peoples worm color, 1/4 ounce drop shot weight 10 lb braid helps with sensitivity on the bite for me personally. Awesome rig, can't wait til tomorrow!

If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

@@isac.2h it's a method on first person shooter called, "drop shotting". You start engaging someone and drop to the ground as you're shooting to throw your opponents aim. When he said," tactical" back in the day before nodded controllers, scufs, and elites it was hard to do this. So people switched to a "tactical" button layout on their controller so they could drop to the drop with their analog stick and still be able to aim at the same time lol

Thanks for the video. There’s one aspect of fishing a drop shot rig that I don’t get and hope that either you - or one of your subscribers who have experience using it - can explain. I thought that the technique is for fishing vertically, either from a boat or a pier or breakwater etc. from dry land. However, many pro anglers suggest that it can be cast out and, not only that, but fished in fairly shallow water. This I don’t understand, because the main line is not going to be perpendicular to the water, it’s going to be at a minimum of 45 degrees - if not more. Consequently, the lure will not be ‘swimming’ anywhere near horizontally in the water column - but either pointing down at a steep angle towards the bottom or upwards at a steep angle towards the surface. This strikes me as being a most unnatural presentation and would not fool a bass or, indeed, any other predatory fish! So, what am I missing? Help please!
@robertbrandywine
@robertbrandywine 5 жыл бұрын
It seems to me it would be about the same as the Carolina Rig in that situation. Both would keep the bait more off the bottom than a Texas Rig, but because of the angle, you would need to increase the separation between the weight and the hook with the drop shot.

It's a Megabass Orochi rod. The stripper guide is designed that way to feed the line more smoothly into the next guide. When line is coming off a spinning reel it is uncoiling violently and they designed the guide to taper the coils smoothly from guide to guide. Martens swears by it.

Great advise on the pole grip. I really messed up my ring finger after fishing all day with the reel between my fingers. I lost the feeling in my ring finger for a week or more. I try to hold ahead of the reel now. You mentioned that you modified your grip to allow this more comfortably. Do you have a write-up or video on how you did the Mod? Most poles don't leave enough room to grip it ahead of the reel.

Megabass does that on all of their spinning rods. They say it helps the line flow through that first guide easier, but I've never really heard why it's supposed to help with that, or whether or not it really helps. I guess maybe it's supposed to make it so that the line going into that guide during the cast doesn't hit the feet of the guide, but it seems to me that the feet wouldn't interfere with the line anyways.

Here is the real question can u use crawfish type baits with drop shotting? How far fom the bottom would u position the hook from the bottom? What brand is best used for it? Robocraw? Or zoom?
@Wired2Fish
@Wired2Fish 9 жыл бұрын
John Swain III The short answer is yes. And sort of what Aaron eluded to in this video. We actually have a feature coming out on Monday that talks about how finesse is more about lighter line and gear and not so much the bait choices. Lots of guys are drop shotting full-size baits because it's a different presentation. Missile Baits makes a couple of streamlined craw lures for drop shotting that are pretty awesome. But I've seen other craw baits work on drop shot rigs. The length of leader is really dependent on what you are fishing. In other words if you have tall vertical cover on the bottom, you might want a longer leader. If the bottom is pretty smooth or just covered in say gravel or something, you will want a shorter leader to keep it close to the bottom where most bass will feed.
@InfinitePlush
@InfinitePlush 11 жыл бұрын
If you have a decent rod you can feel it hit the bottom. If you cannot feel the bottom, try switching to braid with a leader. If all else fails, watch your line when it stops, it's either the bottom or a fish.

How do you fish the drop shot, every video is on rigging. But how do you fish it. Cast to the bottom, shake and reel after? Or just let it sit in one spot forever. I know you should only lift and move the bait and not the weight but can I reel the bait in dragging the weight on the ground to cover more area stopping after a few reels... someone please help me out
@peteredwards1528
@peteredwards1528 8 жыл бұрын
Never fished a drop shot rig before, however I would have thought that it is a rig that needs to be fished vertically under the rod tip to eliminate any slack because if you cast it out and introduce slack into the line then surely the lure will just sink to the bottom won't it, rather that standing up above the weight as I'm guessing it is supposed too?
@Wired2Fish
@Wired2Fish 8 жыл бұрын
It also works great on the cast, you just want to maintain contact with the presentation using a combination of the rod and reel, which will keep the weight on bottom and lure suspended above it. This is particularly effective when you want to maintain some offset from fish that'll spook if you're directly over the top of them (shallow or clear water), or when you want to cover water more quickly. A drop shot can be deadly on the cast.
