Hey I just started being able to dunk over spring break (last week) and I'm trying to learn how to not hurt myself or what I should be thinking cause the first time I dunked in a pickup game I got hit in the air and it made me land weird and I kinda hurt my back I'm 6'2 with shoes so not very tall any tips?
@ThincPROBasketball7 жыл бұрын
Hey man! If you're dunking and getting hit in the air it's probably a foul. What most players do in this case is hang on the rim until you can get your legs back under you to land safely.

It's going to vary for each athlete. We'd suggest completing these during each training session / practice, or at least 3 times per week to start. Increase reps, sets, and days as the movements become easier

Calf workout and Stretch your Achilles
@ThincPROBasketball7 жыл бұрын
Kurt, these are both beneficial movements absolutely! But focusing solely on your calfs or overworking your achilles isn't only a bad idea due to muscle fatigue, but it can also lead to increased chance of injury if overworked or without proper recovery

I'm 5 11 if I just do these excercises will it be enough to dunk? I'm like abt 2 inches away from dunking

is there any chance for me to be able to dunk by only doing these exercises without lifting weights? I'm 6.11 foot tall, (white) and not a natural jumper 😐
@ThincPROBasketball7 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! It's certainly possible, however our bodies are all different. For some athletes - plateaus, genetics, and body build require some strength training to overcome and to really get the results they want. For others, who are more natural at jumping - footwork, technique, and some light exercises can make a big difference!
@y.annick1617 жыл бұрын
6.11 and you cant dunk?! do you have short arms or what is the problem? I mean you should almost be able to dunk only standing on your toes..

I can get up there. It's just finishing that is the problem. Like I can grip the rim and everything. But with the ball I get hung/blocked on rim. Can someone help me please?
@iamteamyou7 жыл бұрын
You got about 5 more inches to go. But honestly go about two weeks without trying to dunk a ball. But just practice your approach....and grabbing the rim from different angles. And work on grabbing the rim with 2hands...... Then tomahawk 2 hands......and then jumping turning and grabbing the rim backwards with 2hands....... At that point you will find your self dunking the ball and it will feel as if you could have been doing it a while ago. Just didn't have the footwork. That (approach and gather) to explode up is everything.......do those jumps every day for about 2 weeks. You'll see what I'm talking about.
@georgepetrou5012 жыл бұрын
@@iamteamyou hey man I'm 5 years late but you seem pretty experienced with dunking, so I figured I could ask you some questions and hopefully you'll enlighten me 1) My ankle mobility is trash. I can only get my foot 4 inches away from the wall in order to bend my ankle enough to reach the wall with my knee, whereas the recommended is 6 inches for dunking. Is that really important, and does it stall my ability to dunk? 2) I feel like I have enough leg strength to dunk, but what I'm missing is flexibility and balance (I think). Is there anything that you would suggest I do? (btw I can reach the rim at 5'8 160 pounds 15 y/o)
@iamteamyou2 жыл бұрын
@@georgepetrou501 1st are you still 5’8…… if so give up!!!! I’m Joking 100%😂 Well what I have for this. Is a tube about the size of a bicycle inter-tube in thickness. And about 2 feet long. My bed has drawers under it. So my bed sits on somewhat of a box. So I tied a knot at both ends of the tube. Placing both knots under the bed. Knots About 2 feet away from each other leaving no slack. Sitting on my bed. Placing the tube just above my foot and below the shin bone. Sit at the edge of the bed. Putting your leg at 90° bent at the knee. Just as you try to touch the knee with wall. But with the pressure from the band at that angle helps put pressure on the foot. While trying to push your knee past your toes. It work twice as good as trying to touch the wall with your knee stretch but Same principle.
@georgepetrou5012 жыл бұрын
@@iamteamyou hey man thanks for this advice. I tried to understand but it was kind of confusing 😂 You didn't mention a band at the start of the comment, but then you said the band will help put pressure on the leg Maybe you could send me a video of the whole thing to help me understand? Ty
