I watched the red cabbage and you have to cool the liquid for the dye to stay purple or sometimes blue ish

That yellow is the dream colour I was never able to find at the fabric store 😍😍😍 definitely doing that with my linen, thank you so much for this wonderful video! 🤗🤗 p.s. how do I stabilise the colour so it doesn’t wash off/dye other fabrics? D:

Thanks for the demonstration and the clear instructions. I was looking with a cheap and easy way to dye a few costume pieces and yours is the first tutorial I found that was concise, didn't require specialty store product (i.e. "To begin dying at home, buy some fabric dye!"), and showed the results clearly with full disclosure about what did and didn't work. I really appreciate it!

If you like the purple colour which is my favorite, blend it filter it and deep the clothing with 2 spoons of salt no venigar if you like after filtering cook it 100 degree leave for at leat 2 days and see what comes out of it. If you don't watch both in 90 degree hot water the colours will mix and you won't like it.

How long does the colour last on the fabric? I'm scared that when I try this the colour will fade after washing two times haha

With the cabbage, you could try heat setting it with an iron before rinsing. I got a lovely lavender silk scarf. Or leave it in over night to absorb the dye.

The colour of cabbage changes on heating, so try doing at lower temperature and you will get beautiful purple shade, also the colour changes with change in pH

Turmeric will typically give intense yellow color, not mustard.

Can you dye with cold dye as well? I want to try it for batik
@onlinefabricstore
@onlinefabricstore 5 жыл бұрын
I don't think you would be able to get a strong color doing it cold. Using some heat, but not enough to melt the wax might work. We also have a no wax batik video: www.onlinefabricstore.net/makersmill/how-to-dye-fabric-no-wax-batik-technique/

@Stella Yang there's a few options, but I've used alum. Works well with turmeric. Not so well with cabbage, which just washes out

Can you suggest any local fixative that I can add?
@Feraloidies
@Feraloidies 4 жыл бұрын
@@priyarajasekhar9250 I used alum, which is an active ingredient in some antiperspirants. I actually used the contents of a roll on antiperspirant! I couldn't find alum anywhere locally and had a time constraint. Might be easier to find online.

@@Feraloidies but surely that is going against using natural dyes in the first place and alum is very bad for your skin

tumeric is insoluble in water...so how do you make a dye?
@onlinefabricstore
@onlinefabricstore 4 жыл бұрын
As long as the turmeric is suspended in the water, (and it will once you stir it well) it will create an even dye bath.
