Great tips! I used a similar method by saturating the inside and outside of my outside garbage bin with either Ortho or Spectracide pest control spray. It lasts about 3-4 months and doesn’t wash off in the rain. You can find it at Walmart in the garden section. I’ve used it for years to control pests inside my home too. It works great for me.

Lay garbage can on it's side and hose it out. Stand can up ,sprinkle cheap laundry soap inside can, use a broom to scrub the wet walls,rinse can and broom now your broom and can are clean.

Great tips, I'm gonna get one of those fly/bug killer doo daddy's for my garbage can. Lol I'm so paranoid about any bugs, and I had a wild idea to tape the bags. And then I see you, Tape the bags. But, your taping job is a whole lot better than mine. I was going in the wrong direction. Thank you for the tip, I'm gonna use your way, starting tomorrow!!! It does make a difference. I've used the stick on thing's, they work. I will try the spray. I twist my bags several times, then use the two draw string's to tie them under the twist. Closes off the top of the trash bags. Thanks!

I like that added step! But question, how do you twist the top if your kids and wi- uh kids just keep loading it to the brim? I suppose could take some off the top and put in the next bag. Asking for a friend 🤫

I would stick the device on the side of the trashcan maybe on the back inside the trashcan, because black trashcans sitting out in the sun, that lid will heat up and eventually that trap will fall off.

i feel like the main entry of the flies in my house is through the front door...would you suggest the spray treatment as well? i know those fly sprays can smell pretty unpleasant and having to walk through that all the time to enter the house would not be ideal...great video!

I have the same problem and highly recommend ZEVO (Fly, Gnat,and Fruit Fly) spray. It kills on contact and is super safe to use around all animals and young children. I caught my cat licking it and it never even made him sick.

The garbage guard is only for outdoor trash cans. The spray can be used indoors but the bottle says to stay out of the sprayed area for about 15 minutes.

Thanks for sharing Personally , Instead of duct tape... I use electrical tape. Gather the top of the bag (The same way) Squeeze air out Pinch the top of bag (To hold vacuum) Spin bag & tape off (One inch below top edge of the bag... 3 wraps stretched & 3 wraps un-stretched) Easy Peazy & Use less tape

Totally forgot about it, but my garage is overrun with flies, and it leads straight into my kitchen, which they try to follow me in. It’s been a nightmare. Years ago I found a product , I forget the maker, it was like a clear plastic decal, placed on windows. It was chemically treated. Killed flys dead. Purchased at Lowes; could never find it again. If masses of flys entered the house which would happen in the summer without finding the source, all needed after decals placed was a vacuum or broom to dispose of dead flys.

That HOT Shot did not work for me at all. I sprayed it not once not twice not 3 times but about 5 times today in my garbage. I even sprayed it on top of the can. I have a can like you. Sure if you spray the flies directly but their friends come back. I had just as many flues the end of tbe day as when I first sprayed this morning. Here watching videos on flys/maggots. We had our trash cam infested and we cleared it outnwithbwater and bleach and no more maggots. But for some reason, the maggots started to come into our garage. We bleached and poured vinegar on the floor and cracks and they died. But this morning there were more! Killed em and vacuumed them out.. no more but im sure later there will be a few more. Hopefully they are dying and the ones coming out are just the few that remain..

@@Josh-os4qk most cities that don’t GAF (give a fart) charge a resident for regular garbage collection and the garbage bin is usually included with the garbage collection and dumping it into a big hole of garbage. The unfortunate truth is most residents who want to have their recyclables recycled in a separate recycling facility using a special “recycling only bin “ where the recycling material is washed and separated to make it easier for the people working at the recycling plant to separate metals, plastic, glass, cardboard etc and make the residents wanting their recyclables recycled pay for an extra and separate fee for a separate special recycling bin and different collection service to come collect their recycling waste and unfortunately it usually gets put in the same big pile of garbage at the trash dump facility. It’s been going to the same hole for awhile now. People are getting scammed into paying more for their recycling to get recycled but it’s not happening. It’s so much easier and cheaper to just throw it all into the piles that will and have been pollluting the environment with so much toxic crap in the land sea air and animals we eat and micro plastics are found in more than half of humans bloodstreams. It sux but it’s all about the greedy politicians who don’t care about their own health or their children’s health and happiness. They won’t be around to see it so why would they care. Sad truth. I’m typing with gloves on so my apologies for the run-on sentences and typos, or miss pronunciation, but you get the jest. I wish it weren’t the truth, but it is.
