You really did a GREAT job! I used to sew a lot of my daughter's clothes when she was small so I am not a novice. However, I did learn something from you and I thank you. Your hand stitching skills are excellent -- WOW! Your video is great for those of us who have lost weight and hate to part with a favorite blue jean jacket just because it's too big.

This is a wonderful video, thanks. Just an FYI, I bought a vintage machine that can sew through many layers of denim like butter. You would be able to sew the final seam with a machine like this and would take minutes instead of hours. My machine is a sew-mor and it's a dream.

@@kaarasstyle I have a very similar jacket with which I need to the exact opposite, basically making it like xl sizes bigger.. How do I do that in reverse? My scissors won't cut in reverse :/

I don’t have 90% of whatever is in this vid (chalk, machine, iron, etc.). I only have my hands, pins, needles, and thread. What do I do?
@kaarasstyle6 жыл бұрын
You got the essentials so that is perfecto! If you could get fabric scissors that will be massively helpful 😃 With your hands and the rest of the materials you have (including a scissor, if you can get it) you can do all the steps in the tutorial. In the step I machine sew, you'll have to handsewn using the backstitch. It will take longer, but it is possible to complete. & the part where I use the chalk, you can use a pencil if the jacket is light enough to see pencil marks.
@kaarasstyle6 жыл бұрын
Thanks eQuariuz ☺️ It’s worth the time if you super wanna downsize. It may feel long at the beginning b/c it’s new. Maybe trying it out in a small scale first will feel easier.

I'm not sure why I never thought to use a flat felled seam for this!! I recently bought a denim jacket and after wearing it for awhile decided I bought it a little /too/ oversized. Can't exchange it because I've already started embroidering on it and it only needs to go in about an inch, maybe 2 anyway. Really well explained tutorial. ☺

Could you sew it inside-out to start with? Then you wouldn't have to finish the seam, iron it, and do the ladder stitch? Just cut excess material down so it isn't bulky?

You're very welcome :) How and why did you learn to sew?
@kaarasstyle6 жыл бұрын
I learned to sew thanks to my sewing teacher during my senior year in High School, then in college I took a few classes, but most of the time learn independently. And the reason as to why I do it is because I enjoy the process of creating and the creativity that goes into customizing clothing.The craft of working on our own clothing allows for more conscious + expressive fashion. I love it 💗 How about you, how and why did you learn :)?

If the washing instructions say to only wash your denim jacket cold does that mean if you wash hot it will shrink? Or will something actually bad happen. My jacket says only wash cold but I want to shrink so is it a good idea to wash hot to shrink? I would love to try to make it smaller following your steps but I’m scared I’m gonna ruin it and I’m really bad at sewing
@kaarasstyle4 жыл бұрын
Hey Melany 😃 It’s the dryer that shrinks clothing, so you can wash it and place it in the dryer and it’ll shrink. What material is your jacket? It all depends on the material of your denim jacket, if it’s Cotton mixed with other materials it could. I would recommend to sew instead of shrinking it b/c you don’t know how small it’ll get. Practice this technique before using it in your jacket, this way you get to learn it and then apply it. You’ll feel more confident this way to try it out on the garment you want to resize. Good luck ☺️ I hope this helps!
@melanyanguilar56204 жыл бұрын
@@kaarasstyle ok thank you for the tips! My jacket is cotton and polyester and it says “do not tumble dry” so I’m not sure if it says this because otherwise it will shrink (which is what I want) so it’s okay or whether something bad will happen to it if I do dry it in the machine
