Whether it’s a five-piece band or just you with your acoustic guitar, using ambient synth pads is a popular way to add warmth and fullness to your sound. These pads don’t require playing with tracks or even playing to a click. You just pick a pad in the key of the song, and the drone pad will compliment all the chords within that key.
The biggest problem I’ve experienced regarding using pads has nothing really to do with the pads themselves. There are some GREAT sounding pads from some GREAT people out there. But when you download the pads as a collection of mp3s, the big question becomes how can you easily use these in a worship set? How do you start and stop them? How do you transition and switch between keys, all the while trying to play your instrument and lead a congregation in worship?
I recently learned about Coresound Pads. Not only do they have a wide variety of pads with different textures that sound amazing, THEY ALL PLAY WITHIN THEIR OWN EASY TO USE APP. That, to me, is the game changer. Coresound solved the biggest problem with using pads in worship.
This video covers:
1. How using ambient pads with a worship band can add warmth and glue everything together
2. How to use pads with just your acoustic guitar to make everything sound more full
3. How to use the Coresound Pads iOS app to buy pads and organize them by song and setlist

This isn't mentioned in the video, but a great way to change the pads with a foot controller is to use something like an AirTurn DUO. It easily connects to your iOS via Bluetooth and will allow you to control your pads with your feet. Here's a link to the AirTurn DUO, so you can check it out: amzn.to/2pjNAqm
