cempedak is one of the members of the jackfruit family and it is also commonly grown throughout Malaysia as well. the sweet and aromatic cempedak fritters are also one of the popular streetfood snacks in Malaysia. we can actually eat its seed straight from the fritters and its tastes starchy and soft. some people use that fruit to make cakes and i have tried a very delicious creamy cempedak cake before. in Borneo, there is also another fruit native to the jackfruit family called tarap which has a very distinct aroma from both jackfruit and cempedak containing bright white fleshes.

Mark, in Indonesia, the unripe cempedak used for chicken curry ( padang culinary), also unripe pineapple for fish curry. We also fried ripe cempedak like tempura. Very ripe cempedak can also to be jam. And the seed also tasty, we boiled sometimes, the taste is like potato and good for your health.

I am growing an orange Cempedak plant which I bought as a seedling in November 2023,I am growing it in a greenhouse just north of Sydney (Newcastle) in Australia & it grew really fast (I bought it & it was 1 foot tall & by this winter in June it was 3 feet tall). While it's young I am giving it frost & cold protection but they will grow in zone 10b which is what the cold hardiness zone is at my location once they have matured a bit,if it's not the cold which will kill the seedlings it's either too much rain or too much sunlight during summer time, the seedlings need to be kept in a semi shaded area to prevent them from getting scorched during summer time. So I look forward to eating that Cempedak as well as the jackfruit that I am also growing, both plants are a bit over 1 metre tall, people grow jackfruit in Sydney so they will grow further north near Newcastle in New South Wales !

❤️ from Malaysia, glad you covered about Chempedak fritter and the seed that you can eat it by boiling or fried it and you even describe the taste and the texture which is similar to taro, potato or chestnut, you even tell viewers that small fruit are more sweet and juicy compared to the bigger ones, hopes it will help any foreigners and travellers that want to buy the fruits in the future, in my backyard there's a few Chempedak tree and two or three of them are from the rare variant species that have red flesh and it more sweet and juicy compared to the normal ones, hope you can find and try it in the future

Cempedak is my favourite local fruit! Sometimes I like it more than durian. We coat them in batter and fry them. The same batter that we use for banana fritters. We even made it into ice cream or cheese cake similar to what we do to the durian flesh. They are seasonal fruit and taste so different from jackfruit. Go and try them if you ever come across one in Malaysia where I’m from. You won’t regret it!

Hello, I'm an Indonesian that grew up in the province of South Kalimantan, and there's a recipe here called mandai, which were made of cempedak's skin. To make it, you peel off the outer part of the skin, leaving only the white part, then you cut it to small pieces, clean it, and soak in water to soften it (or use brine to preserve it). You can then consume it after frying them. Tastes great when eaten together with rice. Anyway, great video, Mark! Cheers from Indonesia 🇮🇩
