A good recipe that last my family for 3 days. You can take some of that onion, the peanut butter, two chicken breast. Cut it up. Fry the chicken in a little of your oil. Add the onions. A little water the peanut butter and make a sauce. Put your carrots with it and pour on top of your rice! It’s delicious! My husband is from Senegal and they know how to make some dishes that last or can feed ten to more people on a very low budget!

Cooking for one can be hard. If possible, make regular recipes and freeze them in portions... that way you can cook less often, and have variety. Cook Just 2 to 3 times per week and rotate out the frozen left overs.

I like to see hauls that include some staples. Most videos out there will include using staples, but "assume" you already have it and don't include it in the budgeting. Eventually those staples need replaced and have to be included in the budget, so a replacement staple should be included in some way in the budget... flour one week, oil the next, spices and sugars the next week after that, etc. It adds up and counts.

Since I rarely go to Target I always end up buying stuff I don't normally buy making my shopping trip way more expensive than it should be. But there are reasonably priced groceries as long as you do not fall victim to impulse shopping. Last time I was at Target this lady was losing her mind and was blocking the aisle with her basket at one end and her husbands basket on the other end--not allowing people down the aisles. She took the 6-feet-apart thing to a whole other level.

Take slices of bread, butter/margarine, shred cheese top it, stick in oven till toasted. Sprinkle parmesan
@mslolly10654 жыл бұрын
This is what we call cheese on toast in the UK, and is typically more popular than a grilled cheese sandwich. We toast one side, toast the other (very slightly, not to brown it however, but prevents it going soggy when the cheese melts) then sprinkle cheese and add a few drops of Worcestershire sauce. I usually add butter once toasted, to the corners and a thin layer on top. It’s great.
@beverlysteele87544 жыл бұрын
Some of the guys make "bread sticks" out of a cheap pack of hotdog buns (potato bread) butter, garlic, face down on sprayed cookie sheet. Toast. Cheese can be added by flipping face up. Buns are opened, used as tops and bottoms, separate bread sticks.

I make homemade oatmeal with brown sugar bananas. The bananas, a tablespoon or two of brown sugar, a pat of butter. Slice banana, place in microwave safe bowl, sprinkle brown sugar and a dash of cinnamon on top, add a pat of butter or margarine. Microwave till the brown sugar caramelizes and the butter fully melts. Prepare oatmeal as directed, I used instant oatmeal, then add a splash of fresh or condensed milk, and pour the banana mixture over the oatmeal. You could also add a few raisins or dried cranberries, and if you have it, some chopped walnuts or pecans, or peanuts. VERY GOOD!🤤🙂

Since you asked what we would have done differently, I would have tried for pork roast for carnitas. In my area, pork is the same price as your chicken. Street taco tortillas are small but very cheap and if you get the white corn type they are very cheap. The leftover broth from the carnitas can be used to season rice.

Great finding your newest videos! Thought you might like this old recipe from the Joy of Cooking which is an excellent budget dish. Very versatile; you can choose which beans and onions you use depending on what is on sale. Kidney Bean Casserole: Heat 1-2 TB vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add 1 cup chopped onion and cook for about 10 minutes. Add 2 cloves finely chopped garlic and cook until vegetables are tender, 2 to 5 minutes longer. Add 2 tsp (or more) chili powder and cook for another minute or so, to allow the spice to mix with the oil and vegetables. Add 4 cups cooked kidney beans, one 28 oz can whole tomatoes (drained and coarsely chopped), 3/4 tsp salt (less if you’re using canned beans) and 1/2 tsp black pepper. Cook for a few minutes until nice and bubbly. Place half of the bean mixture in a 2-qt casserole. Sprinkle with 1/3 cup grated cheddar cheese. Layer in the rest of the bean mixture, and top with another 1/3 cup grated cheddar. Bake at 350, uncovered, until the cheese is melted and starting to brown, about 30 minutes.

I Would have traded one of the bread for flour & yeast and made bread, and other items with the flour. And traded one green bean for broccoli or mixed vegetables. With the extra money I would have gotten potatoes Ways to use the items differently: Oatmeal- oat pancakes, make oat milk Beans- refried beans, bean burgers Rice- rice pudding Bananas- "nice" cream (blended frozen bananas into icecream) Carrot- smooth carrot soup with bread made into croutons Pasta- blended the one of the tomatoes into a sauce, put over half of the pasta, make bread crumbs, and bake. Then make a peanut sauce, vegetables, and pasta for different dish another night.

These are great ideas! I always feel like these are very “plain” meals she does, which is fine but I need more variety/ideas.

Your carrot/peanut butter toast looks amazing! So creative! As a plant-based eater, I would trade the chicken for more fresh fruit, but besides that would look for pretty much the same things. Thanks for another great video! 🙂

Hi Rachel, I am glad you like my PB toast :) I find meat does not always settle well with my digestion. I would have liked more fruit myself!

I haven't been in a Target store for about 3 years I didn't realize they have so much food my household and clothing come from thrift stores and garage sales. I do check all my grocery store ads when they come out on Wednesday but Kroger is my main store mostly because I try to buy only markdown meat and other markdown food and I have to say I'm not a rice and bean person

I make a pasta dish with black beans diced tomatoes and garlic and onion and a bit of oil if needed. Other variations with those items could have been bean/veg burgers. Oat pancakes, chilli, rice pudding for breakfast. Pb oat bars ( mix pb and brown sugar ( honey works too, heat in the microwave for a min) add in enough oats to get a cookie dough consistency form into balls or spread in a lined pan. I'd probably have reduced the bread and added in eggs and flour. Great video 👍

Love these videos! Im in South Central PA. Our Aldi is cheaper than Walmart which is cheaper than the Target or the regular grocery store. I'm blessed to have a Dollar Tree and Aldi side by side, so I shop at those 1x per week.

I just discovered your channel and think you did and outstanding job! The only thing I would suggest, is to bring a calculator to the store next time. That way, if you do have more in the budget, you could get more produce, a can of tuna, some eggs, whatever makes sense with what else you have planned. You did a lovely job though and hope you do more of these videos! :-)
@TheQuaintHousewife4 жыл бұрын
Hi Nana, thanks for watching my videos! I do in fact bring a calculator. I don't want to bore you with details, but the range of mistakes that I have made or encountered at the stores in the production of these videos is at least a handful, including needing to be rung up twice to have a proper receipt in the right amount. I try to provide a well-produced video, but you are still going to see some issues and quirks that I am not always able to smooth over. XOXO

@@TheQuaintHousewife Thank you for taking my suggestion as it was intended. Most of us likely have no idea what it takes to make these videos and you do such a good job. I was just thinking of times we've been super tight and only had so much cash. Believe me, I have to use a calculator so I don't have to be embarrassed and put something back. Thanks again for your honesty and kind response. Take care and looking forward to more videos. You are surely helping so many! :-)

I just found out today that your new video was posted. You look amazing; you have great skin and hair! I love all of your meal ideas. My creativity comes from minimal ingredients and on a budget. Lately I've been using more than half of my check on microwavable foods because I need convience meals at this point in our lives. 😳 But I'm hoping school starts back up because going digital is taking its toll.
@TheQuaintHousewife4 жыл бұрын
Sometimes that convenience is important. I have heard multiple people comment on how they want in-person school to come back ASAP. That you for the compliments! I don't know if you have clicked the bell icon on my channel to be alerted right away when I post. Some people don't like the bell feature, but I just mentioned it in case you didn't know about it.
