Then to that I boil 250g (9oz) costing me 10kr (0.95$) And I add some mayo from a jar of mayo that I have in the fridge. A jar that lasts me lets say 4 tuna & rice meals = 6kr (0,50$) So a meal that gets me pretty darn full cost me 4,5$. I can more often than not spread that over to two meals. Lunch: Cooked beans/chickpeas/lentils with squash or potatoes Snack: Fruits (Apple, banana, orange, dates etc... Peanuts Dinner: Chicken breast with rice or bulgur Vegetables (Green beans, broccoli etc...) Yeah - $30 is $900 a month - for 1 person! Now a family a 3 or 4 people is literally 3-4x that. Not cheap! Here’s what I do: breakfast - 4 eggs, lunch and dinner - white rice, bell peppers and onions, simmered ground beef. Easily gets you 200g protein a day, less than 100g carbs (but you can add more if needed), and costs around $12/day. If you need snacks, stick with fruit, whatever is on sale and seasonal is usually cheaper. For drinks, stick with water with a squeeze of lime juice for flavor. Shy away from fish because it’s expensive, and cheap fish isn’t necessarily nutritious. Key is nutrient dense foods with fewer calories, and low cost!

How does 4 eggs for breakfast and simmered ground beef for lunch a dinner equate to 200g protein? How much ground beef are you using?
@larrycampbell613320 күн бұрын
@@Operos 8 ounces of 90/10 lean ground beef with rice (adjust rice up or down based on carb limits/goals). 8 oz of lean ground beef has 48g protein. 3 times per day is 144g. Add in 4 eggs for breakfast, you’re up to 168g protein. 99% of lifters are going to have at least 1 sizeable protein shake after their gym session - let’s round to 40g since that can vary. Now you’re over 200. You can cook the rice and add beef stock which can get you another 10g per serving if you need it (pro tip, the beef stock in the rice adds flavor and a little extra moisture, making the rice easier to eat, especially if it’s larger quantities when bulking). Check out Stan Efferding’s Vertical Diet - while I don’t agree with everything, it focuses its core on nutrient dense calories and provides a great foundation to build “lifestyle eating habits”. And sometimes just to break up the monotony, I’ll cook chuck roast like steaks and other cheap lean cuts of meat paired with sweet potatoes - once or twice a week, like I said, just to throw a little variety in. The diet also focuses on nutrition - so you eat a few raw baby carrots throughout the day, and some fruit like an orange or kiwi. Those don’t add protein, but their nutritional value is more important. Note that these aren’t added in that food cost, but 1 per day is relatively cheap. Hope that helps. Use different spices to change up the flavors as often as you won’t because the only thing that makes it tough is the monotony - I’ll sometimes make it with a little bit of chorizo and peppers, or a small amount of soy sauce or teriyaki (and add some fried egg - more protein) for an Asian spin, or even a bit of vinegar marinade and spices - just so it doesn’t feel like you’re eating the exact same dish. It’s the most budget friendly 200g of protein you will ever find!

Once you get into it you start to feel amazing. ALSO, this video inspired me to challenge myself and decide on a period of, maybe 3 months, to experiment with radical eating changes. Could I go 3 whole months without eating out (no more than 5 times) ? I think it has potential to be shocking: comparing the $ spent on food over a regular 3 month period, to 3 months of cooking for myself nearly everyday. Maybe I’ll video it. Anyone wanna do it with me ?

1 lb ground beef is 4-6 dollars. 60-90 grams of protein. Get some cheap fruit for 4-6 dollars. If you’re a man over 120 lbs I’d recommend eating 2 lbs of ground beef and fruit every other day. Easy fixes: don't have meat AND fish AND eggs on the same day, cut the fish and make a huge batch of legumes weekly. Get a bigger yogurt tube. Don't turn on the oven at all. Cycle red meat, chicken and fish. Otherwise it's very good (for a bonus I would add a bunch of dry fruits here and there)

$30 per day seems expensive for his three budget homemade meal day at first glance. However, compare this to a typical menu of a takeout specialty coffee plus a danish pastry for breakfast, second takeout coffee for break time in the morning, then McDs combo meal for lunch, add mid afternoon large chocolate bar with another coffee for snack and then, maybe a home cooked dinner. The latter still easily adds up to $30 or more and it is not nutritious.
