Thank you so much for making this video Dr.Westie. Labs showed my cortisol levels are pretty high, explains all of my symptoms. sucks. Between grieving my dads passing, nursing school, and working 2 jobs, would explain why my labs are out of whack. I am deff following your advice by eating more often, smaller portions, and non inflammatory foods. Your the best.!!! if you could give some ideas on whole nutrient foods excluding the egg burrito : ) thank you so much.

Yes. Cortisol is the main factor here. When cortisol is under control it will shift energy.

My stress levels have been off the charts for years. I have been plateaued at my current weight for 2 years now. Despite gym memberships, a vegan plant based diet etc. And this is a chronic plateau for me ever since puberty my body goes through cycles where I gain 60lbs in four months not changing anything, then I drop 80lbs in six months then I gain 50lbs in five months and then plateau for a matter of years it’s crazy. When I have my hormone levels checked they tell me there fine but this is not fine for me everything in my closet is a 6-12 because I never know what size I’m gonna be.
@DrBethWestie
@DrBethWestie 4 жыл бұрын
This pattern of losing and gaining is really harmful long term for your hormones. Even though they may be within “normal” range that doesn’t necessarily mean there is not an underlying issue. I would encourage you to look into the DUTCH test. Www.drbethwestie.com/dutch-hormone-testing/

This is great information. which explains probably why I feel like a puffer fish because I am menopausing & my stress levels are probably escalating my cortisol levels to the point that I cannot get over the plateau & nothing fits. . I am definitely going to try your remedy by eating smaller meals and possibly try your tea recipe. Thank you for this video.

ive been getting so many mixed messages. Ive been seeing intermittent fasting and how that rises Human Growth Hormone (HGH) and this can reduce cortisol? So having 1-2 meals a day for that but now Im hearing that isnt right?
@DrBethWestie

IF does improve HGH but it also increases cortisol in women when they go extended periods of time without sufficient nutrient.

Yout thoughts on the ketogenic diet, intermittent fasting and the one meal a day version of IF?
@DrBethWestie
@DrBethWestie 7 жыл бұрын
I have done videos on all of these! I wouldn't recommend keto or 1 meal per day for women. They are very damaging to hormones for women. Intermittent fasting can be effective if done correctly.

Thank you for the quick reply. I am male and have dropped 30 painless pounds in 2 1/2 months doing keto, IF and recently OMAD. But, yes, women are different.
@DrBethWestie

Deane Carter yep it typically works great for men. But with women’s hormones it’s very damaging, and typically results in storing fat.

Curious about your thoughts on adrenal fatigue and chronic fatigue syndrome and how to exercise to get in shape while keeping cortisol levels low?! I've gained 20lbs I can't lose while being grain free, dairy free, sugar free, alcohol and caffeine free for 6 years but still struggling with high cortisol and not able to exercise more than 20 mins without feeling crashed - Thanks, love your channel!

Hi Jennifer. I don't recommend the Keto diet, especially for women. Not having a significant amount of carb in your diet long term is very damaging for hormones. This video is talking about lowering cortisol and making sure you are getting a complete nutrient meal (protein, fat & carb). I Like how you explain, fat cells, I want mine to look like pancakes I visualize that thank you. So if we freeze(kill) or remove fat cells does our bodies just read our DNA and replace what we lost ? Can't afford that any way. I have tried ice packing on my belly but with professionally freezing it sapposed to take a month or two or three for swelling to go down.. . Removing fat this way sounds like it would stress out the body. There is a question in here some where. I've been thin my whole life until major repeated sorrow now I'm broke and old and obese. But trying to pull myself back to gether for the love of grand children. Thank you you make scence a little easier for me.

I would suggest focusing on a long term solution in your diet. As women when we get older our hormones shift and change and we have to match our nutrition to that shift.
