The ironic part is that most of this stress (high cortisol) is caused by having to hold onto a job we absolutely hate going to, day in ... day out. The dread of ' omg hope i sleep because i have to wake up and go to my shitty job ' lingers in the brain, and the end result is we have a hard time either falling asleep or staying asleep. And big pharma know this !

Big pharma has nothing to do with that🤔 you have to choose to change it! If keeping that job is getting you to the point where it's causing health issues, you might well find something else better suited 👍For your own well being and mental health👍 do keep in good health if you are taxed mentally to the point of loosing sleep.

Anyone who has a relationship with a narcissist will have high cortisol, I had 10 years with me ex covert narcissist, so much stress now I’ve got major physical issues diabetes overweight high blood pressure I had two strokes all because somebody lies to you constantly and then leaves you hanging because they’ve discarded you left me with three years of wondering why and neglecting myself at the same time by self-medicating then I had my stroke both ischemic And hemorrhagic at the same time, I was down in my apartment for 36 hours before somebody called the police and have them come check on me had it not been for that somebody I would be dead because I died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital they did a craniotomy on me when I got there cut out part of my brain that had died three weeks later I was recovering in rehab now I’m paying lots of attention in my diet watching Dr. Berg as well

Years ago my Dr Who specialised in Hormones, tested my Cysteine levels, and told me the range, and once you were over that range what the multiplying factors were for each one over the range. Mine wasn't as high as his, however, he put me on Folic Acid, (primarily, MEGAFOL), 1mg. Once a day, to prevent heart events. (This is the same as they give you during Pregnancy to make sure you had a lesser chance of having a Baby with Spina-bifide! He, of course, needed a 5mg dose as his Cysteine levels were much higher than mine. He wasn't at all concerned about Cholesterol. That would have been about 2007. He also gave me a Progesterone Cream, he had made especially for his Pts as he believed Estrogen caused problems, in Menopausal Women, which turns out to be the case. Hope this helps someone.

Dr. Berg, won’t bore you with details but here’s a list in the past two years. I have a medical background and use your info to shape my health and diagnostic testing. 1) Stopped taking heartburn meds and use ACV. CURED. 2) tested vitamin D level found at 20ug/dl now taking supplements at >10k IU and retested at 57. 3) Your videos on hypothyroidism lead to a test and a confirmed diagnosis. No conversion issue. 4) tested A1c = OK 5) taking glutamine, enzymes for bile production, added zinc, magnesium , vitamin D and fish oil and my blood work is great. 6) exercised my entire life, just changed my training to be compatible for goals. 7) IF is a life changer for my body type. I limit carbs and sugar but don’t do Keto. 8) Got a DNA test to supplement blood work Q6 months to stay on target. 9) I bought a glucose meter to start testing myself based on your videos to dial in my data points for max efficiency as I train for strength, do my yoga and walk daily with the dog. 10) your videos have been wicked awesome.

What is hard is that I am tired in the evening and fall asleep around 8:00 to 9:00 pm. So I wake up around 2:00 to 3:00 am. So I try to force myself to stay awake up to around 9:30. Sometimes I can make it and then I wake between 3:30 or can actually sleep until 4:30. It just makes for a long day though. Fortunately I do love mornings.

@@donnaml8776 My psychiatrist said that if the number of hours you sleep leaves you waking up refreshed, then that is enough time for you. This7-8 hour number does not apply to everyone. Sounds like if you can adjust when you fall asleep, you wouldn't be in too bad a shape. This may not apply, but years ago a news story was done on a family where the father and one of the two daughters would go to sleep around 4 pm and wake up in the wee hours of the morning. It felt perfectly normal to them and the worse thing was that it was hard for them to keep up with the other family members. So there may be something genetic involved.

Really glad you did this video Eric. I'm just discovering this now. That my excessive thoughts are making me sick with high cortisol levels. So getting back to long walks and taking calcium magnesium are vital for getting healthy again, among the the other recommended items. Merry Christmas from Vancouver, Canada and thanks again for the great info.

Ever since I stopped casually dating, and tried to find a steady partner, my life has been in shambles. Weight gain. Pain. Anxiety. Insomnia. Mood swings. Monetary problems. Etc. etc. etc. I'm 46 now. And I've realized that the pressure I've put on myself to find a life partner has ruined my health. Not everyone is cut out to be in relationships. People can live happy lives being single and living the bachelor/bachelorette life. That's the life I lead when I was at my happiest. That's the life I'm going to start leading again.

1-3AM is high-tide for Liver, according to TCM. When we eat later than sunset, esp when we eat bad food and/or drink alcohol...our liver has to work over-time at it's high-tide to do all the work it needs to do. Since it is over-working, it pulls energy from the meridian, including muscles and connective tissues, causing tightness/soreness when we wake up in the morning. This explains why we wake up around 2am after eating/drinking late, and then have a sore neck in the morning. The answer is to change the pattern. In short term, manual massage and Qi Gong releases the pain/disease and restores flow.

I had 8 hormones tested for the first time last month. My cortisol was cycling correctly, it was highest in the morning BUT it was TOO high in the morning. And another thing is as it was going down it spiked just a little before going down to its lowest level. One symptom of high cortisol in the morning is morning anxiety which I do often feel. When I looked that up on KZbin I came upon a lot of videos that talked about CAR, Cortisol Awakening Response. It said if you have high cortisol in the morning to not eat sugar in the morning and do some cardio within the first 10 minutes of awakening. The other symptoms I have that be Dr. Berg mentioned is muscle wasting in my thighs. I used to have muscular legs. Although I heard adrenal Fatigue can cause muscle wasting too and the other thing is I do often wake up at about exactly 2 am, although the last several times it was about 3 am.

I have had hbp for so long. No matter what I did it was always high. After 9 years or more of following Dr. Berg my blood pressure has now come down so low that I am in shock! It used to to stay at 215/116. I found it was due to too many carbs! Now it is around 118/76. I had to see a doctor regularly because I had fractured my wrist and later fractured my Arm. I stayed off the carbs because the Dr. wanted to call an ambulance everytime I went to see the Workmans comp dr. I have to stay below 30 carbs. I am extremely sensitive to carbs and caffeine. I always woke up at 2 am and could not go back to sleep! As long as I stay low on carbs I sleep through the night and my belly fat is disappearing. Thank you so much Dr. Berg!

Thanks Dr. Berg for this video. I keep my eyes open for this topic. I have read about vitamin C to control cortisol and I use natural vitamin C from juice of oranges, lime and 1/2 lemon from time to time. It seems to work. I had a procedure yesterday (Friday) and my BP was 201/160! Needless to say the nurses were panicked. I received 30mg of a beta blocker and my BP went down to 160/90. I was drilled on what was going on and told them it's because I have been stressed about the procedure and it happens all the time. I get my head wrapped around the axel because I worry about what could be found. Everything came out great! However, I did order a BP cuff to monitor and will keep an eye out.

Wow that 2 am part is so true and confirms my suspicions. I've been dealing with some high stress narcissitic abuse and having to frantically leave that situation with my parent and kind of just figure out how to take my life back. For a while I've felt like I might have high cortisol and I started trying to fix it, the belly fat lessened and the waking up around 2am-3am stopped and I was sleepign through the night. Going on the long long walks I've been going on has been amazing.

Great video! I had that early morning waking thing, it's horrible! Was getting like 3-4 hours of sleep for months. I tried everything, working out, sleep hygiene, cutting out my ADHD meds (Adderall), and nothing was helping... However what did actually help me was to lower my caffeine intake. It sounds nuts but drinking too much coffee at 8-9am was absolutely priming me to wake up super early. It really helped. I know everyone is different but I think it's worth mentioning, since so many people consume caffeine. Perhaps it was a synergy with the amphetamine. But I feel the best I have in years now. I take the Adderall again and it hasn't affected my sleep at all.

Your set of videos, this one and others, on cortisol has help recognize a few of my habits. The 2 AM waking and a large amount of visceral fat were my worse and most frustrating symptoms. Between progressive weight training 4X a week (being mindful of lower body exercises), meditative breathing exercises and daily intermittent fasting (16/8) for the past 4 months, I have eliminated nearly all the symptoms you mention here and had lost 10 pounds of visceral fat and gained 5 pounds of muscle. A year ago, I weighed in at 270 pounds overall and 4 months later, about 250. As my trainer tells me, it is likely I will reach my goal of reaching my former overall weight of 185 but will feel very successful if I return to 200 pounds as long as I can get back to a healthier level of visceral fat. AND, my PCP can verify all of this but it was you who helped me to investigate all possibilities. Thank you!
