There is one thing I forgot to mention in the tutorial. You should probably create video proxies if your computer is not very powerful, when doing multi-cam video editing. After importing videos into the project, go to the Project Media tab, select all videos, then right-click and select “Create Video Proxies”. To edit with Proxies, switch Preview Window = Draft or Preview. To view HD originals, switch back to Good or Best.

hi dr zen! :) i've got an idea. if you don't see anything on your go pro's audio track just right click on it then choose the "switches" in the menu what jumps up then choose "normalize". then you'll see the graphics on the audio track to use for synching. easy-peasy, problem solved. and when you're done with synching just switch it off :)
@MovieStudioZen6 ай бұрын
Yes, using Normalize IS an excellent idea for increasing audio volume and therefore increasing the audio waveform. It's something I should have mentioned a long time ago. Thanks for your message!

OK i'm back again to look at your video one more time. I did something crazy while editing my video. So I had to sit back, take a deep breath so I wouldn't throw my computer out of the window and, I had to pour myself a glass of wine🍷..I have been working with Vegas Studio 14 for many years now and I am still learning NEW things about this program thanks to YOU. OK so back to your video...

This was very good information. I was sure there is better way to do things than just manually slice the tracks, but was not able to figure it out. This will save tons of time for my upcoming projects, so HUGE thanks to you for making this great tutorial 👍

Thanks for the video! Something I was wondering and just tested myself was if you could use the 1 through 4 keys on your keyboard to activate a camera while doing this. And you can! So if anyone was wondering that is possible. I suggest doing that instead of clicking because its much faster than moving your mouse.

Great video...wish I had seen this earlier! I started off using Version 13, then upgraded to the FAULTY Version 14 Platinum and never used it (thus continued to use Version 13 for a few years), then upgraded to Version 18 PRO when it was on sale in back in July 2021, and **THEN** found your channel to learn that Version 14 had updates to fix the problems I had. Once I got V14 running properly my stubborn side kicked in and I decided to learn the V14 on my older computer before starting to play with V18 PRO on my new computer. For some reason I missed this video tutorial of yours until today and I have done a LOT of multicam video editing using 2-to-4 Sony video cameras over the years (I am not a professional; everything I do is for fun and/or for family or charities). I've always done the manual sync and did not know about the automatic sync capability, and knew about the multicam view but had no clue how to use it. This video helps a lot! QUESTION INTRO: Picture-in-Picture (PIP) editing can be a great tool when doing multicam editing. My version 14 Platinum has the PIP option that I played with but found out that I do not have the actual NewBlue FX software installed and thus my resulting final V14 PIP video has a thin red "X" on the screen. I opened that V14 video project on my V18 PRO computer and V18 apparently does not even have the ability to look at the draft PIP that was created in V14 (I get error messages about the PIP function). QUESTION: Is there a way to get the PIP functionality without buying the expensive NewBlue Total FX package (normally priced $1499, on sale through today [Dec 31, 2021] for $749)? Is that NewBlue Total FX work with my V18 PRO (the online "compatibility" list is confusing to me) and/or my older V14 Platnium?
@kelvinkuwik43952 жыл бұрын
UPDATE: I just found all your other KZbin videos about PIP editing; I will study those now and suspect that all my questions will be answered. Not sure why I am seeing a lot more of your video options now compared to when I first found and subscribed to your channel 6 months ago.
@MovieStudioZen2 жыл бұрын
You don't need NewBlue FX to do Picture in Picture FX with any version of Vegas! That being said, NewBlue Total FX for half price, is an amazing offer. I own Total FX myself and it is an excellent Toolbox of FX that will definitely work in Vegas Pro 18. Not sure about Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 14? Total FX also comes with NewBlue Titler Pro, which is an excellent and very advanced, Titling application. It's what I use to make all my titles. Getting back to Picture in Picture FX. There are multiple ways to create Picture in Picture in Vegas. The main way is to use the Track Motion tool. I recommend you read/watch this tutorial on creating Multi-screen FX: www.moviestudiozen.com/free-tutorials/sony-vegas-pro/546-multi-screen-video-fx-sony-vegas-pro Vegas Pro 18 also has a dedicated "Picture in Picture" Video FX you can use as an alternative. Go to Video FX tab, select "Creative" sub-tab and find Picture in Picture. Drag on top of video on timeline, you want to position in a corner. You can use Location settings and/or drag video inside of Preview window, to re-position and re-size.

@@MovieStudioZen The one "Gold Nugget" that I missed during my "Self Taught" classes is that I did not know that you had to hold the CTRL key down when resizing or CROPPING a photo/video. With each tutorial of yours that I watch I seem to pick up on only half of those "Gold Nuggets" that you hand out!

Derek, Thank you so much! Your videos are very helpful. I'm working on a few video projects and need to learn video editing. I bought Vegas Movie Studio 15 Platinum some time ago and never really had a project for it until now. I ran across your videos as I was researching the "not-so-version 18." I now have version 17. hey mate im having a problem im recording with a Sony A7 S iii and when i import the clip its very choppy and lags alot, have any tips on why this is happening ? i read that its maybe because of the 10 bit 4:2:2 ?
@MovieStudioZen2 жыл бұрын
To edit 10 bit 4:2:2 video, you need a very good CPU (8x Core minimum) and a powerful Graphics Card. You can't expect to edit this type of video on a "light" laptop or basic desktop computer. I would recommend using a Proxy Video workflow, so that you use easier to play versions of your videos while you are editing. Do all your cuts first, before adding FX. Read/watch this old article of mine: www.moviestudiozen.com/free-tutorials/sony-vegas-pro/553-sony-vegas-zen-tips-3-preview-lag

@@MovieStudioZen so i figured out the problem i just changed the format on my Camera. do you have any tutorials on how to use LUTS and color correct videos etc ??
@MovieStudioZen2 жыл бұрын
Using LUTs is a VEGAS Pro feature only. If you upgrade to VEGAS Edit 19 which is on sale right now for only $89, there are default LUTs you can choose from OR you can import Custom LUTs that you already own. VEGAS Edit 19 is the full version of VEGAS Pro, just by itself. zen3.me/us-vegas-upgrades I have a beginners guide tutorial for Colour Correction that explains the basics, which is important for understanding what is actually going on when you change colour settings. This tutorial was made with the original Colour Tools in Vegas. I would recommend reading my article first, then watching video: www.moviestudiozen.com/free-tutorials/sony-vegas-pro/526-colour-correction-tools-sony-vegas-pro I also need to make an updated Colour Correction tutorial, to explain all the NEW Tools in Vegas Pro - that will happen in a few months time. In new versions of Vegas, there is a Colour Button in bottom toolbar, that activates Colour Tools - this is where you can select a LUT or import a LUT.

Great tutorial, TY. Is four, the maximum number of cameras that can be synced this way? And what happens if one is using four cameras, and has a master audio track. You initially mentioned this, but then abandoned the master audio track and continued the tutorial using just four cameras w/ their associated audio tracks. 12/11/2023
@MovieStudioZen11 ай бұрын
4x Cameras is the maximum for Multi-Cam in VEGAS Movie Studio. The Master Audio track can be put on it's on Audio Track, outside of the 4x Camera (multi-cam tracks). On your timeline that would look like 4x Video Tracks with 4x Linked Audio Tracks, and then a separate 5th Master Audio track. If you need any help beyond this, I recommend posting a message on my forum here: www.moviestudiozen.com/forum

HI and thanks. I have a current project where the audio is aligned with mouth movements on screen in the editing, but when it renders it's out by a second. If I align it by waveform with the main camera audio it renders perfectly, but is out of synch in the edit environment. Have you ever seen this, and any suggestions ? Thanks.
@MovieStudioZen2 жыл бұрын
I have no idea why that would happen. Personally, I always use waveforms to sync audio.
@kelvinkuwik43952 жыл бұрын
I suspect (hope?) that you will have simple answer to this question! Background: I am using Vegas 14 Platinum and Vegas 18 Pro (on two different computers). Prior to watching this and trying the multicam editing feature I routinely edited 3 or 4 videos of the same event. I have always manually synced the videos and used the editing technique of using a primary video at the top of all the other (muted) videos and then adding another "transition" video line above the primary video in which I copy and paste various video segments from the bottom 2 or 3 videos). Question: Your video above shows a "Data" line above each of the video tracks and I have never seen that option for my videos. How do I get that data line to show on my video tracks?
@MovieStudioZen2 жыл бұрын
Do you mean the "Coloured Strip" with name of file name showing? This is a newer feature that will work in Vegas Pro 18. Add video to timeline. Press "hamburger" button in top right corner of video. Select "Edit visible button set" at bottom. Select SHOW ALL to start with and OK. Now you have all data.

@@MovieStudioZen Once again, Thanks! I was wanting to finish some lingering video projects before jumping from my V14 Platinum (on my old Win 8.1 laptop) to my V18 Pro (on my new Win 10 laptop). In the meantime I went back to my manual multicam editing techniques on my V14 but will certainly try the V18's multicam editing when I get these projects complete and jump in to learning V18! [My video projects are a hobby and I did some free video work for my niece's wedding using 5 different video cameras...V14 seems to handle those 5 video tracks just fine!]

Thanks for the Vid! But how can I Multicam with 2 Soundtracks per Video? One is desktop audio the other is the Microphone. Need this for gameplay with multiple persons. It only works with one of the two audiotracks :(
@MovieStudioZenАй бұрын
I am just reading your message today, 16th September 2024. Are you using VEGAS Movie Studio Platinum or VEGAS Pro? Did you use OBS to record your gameplay? If you recorded with OBS and are using VMSP, you could add 2x different Audio Take Streams to your timeline. Video Track #1 = Different video streams, which you switch to different takes, each time you press S for split. Audio Track #2 = All the different DESKTOP Audio Streams available to choose from. Audio Track #3 = All the different MICROPHONE Audio Streams to choose from. *To get 2nd set of audio streams only on Track #3, select ALL your videos, use RIGHT-CLICK to drag onto timeline, when you let go of Mouse button, select AUDIO ONLY & ADD AUDIO AS TAKES. If you had 4x different videos with 2x audio tracks for each, you will have 8x different audio takes to select from when you right-click an AUDIO track only and select TAKE. On Track #2, select example: Video 1 and Audio Take 1. Then go to Track #3 and select Video 1 and Audio Take 2. Now you will have BOTH audio streams for each video.

great tutorial, thanks - I especially like that you keep the fails and explain how to move on! We have so many cameras in the band and I struggle a bit with keeping it all together and get them synced up without the singer looking like he mimes to a playback :-D Do you have a good tip to apply a default transition to all clips at once like a 0,5 second fade in/out?

Question when I synced my two audio stream, I noticed my editing screen changed........now I have a black bar at the top and a black bar at the bottom. Why did that happen. Before I did the audio sync my video filled the whole screen in the editing window.😏AND it won't let me add anything (like text) in those bars......what happened?

You should ALWAYS backup all of your data onto an External Drive. It does sound like you should do a "Clean Install" of Windows 10. I have 2 tutorials on this topic here: 1. www.moviestudiozen.com/free-tutorials/computers-and-video-editing/548-how-to-do-a-clean-install-of-windows-10 2. www.moviestudiozen.com/free-tutorials/computers-and-video-editing/575-restoring-drivers-apps-windows-10 Make sure to back up your data first and you will be OK. Also prepare before you do anything, so that you are clear on all the steps.
