Is there a way to seperate audio from a video to edit them separately?

Click on event (video) and press U for Un-Group - this will separate audio and video components. If you want to re-group audio and video, select BOTH audio and video, then press G for Group. Tip: You can also import only the audio or only the video, if you right-click drag a video to the timeline, then select the option you want from right-click menus.

I have followed you for sometime now. I purchased movie studio 13 and like it alot. However a friend just purchased movie studio 18 and do not recognize anything in the product. You most likely have looked at this program, has it been completely destroyed? What were they thinking? I am very unhappy with this program, should l send it back?

Most people who want to stay with the traditional "Vegas" video editor, are upgrading to Vegas Edit 19, which is the full version of Vegas Pro just by itself. Hi Derek, I've just recently purchased Movie Studio 17 Suite and I must say I'm disappointed. I've been using Movie Studio 13 and I find 17 actually isn't as good and doesn't have as many effects. Am I missing something? Many thanks, Walt

Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 17 has more "Vegas" FX than version 13. it also has many more functions than v13. If there is something specific you think is missing, what is it ? What specifically do you find disappointing ? Please note that in the past, Vegas was often packaged with "Bonus" 3rd party FX. Each month since the dawn of time, any bonus FX would change each month.

Can you do a video on making GoPro video files actually work correctly in Vegas. Constantly locks up the program.

GoPro videos are highly compressed. You need a very good GPU to playback in raw state and must switch Preview Quality to Draft or Preview. Please watch Video #2 if you haven't already, where I explained all the tricks in getting the best performance. kzbin.info/www/bejne/imXMhaOVnqt9bdU You have 2 options: 1. Use Video Proxies, which I explained in part 2 here: 2. Convert ALL GoPro videos using Handbrake, before you import into Vegas - which I also explained in Part 2.

@@MovieStudioZen I have a really fast processor but using Movie Studio Platinum 13 which I love. I also always use the proxies on all clips GoPro or not. I will try converting with HB and see what happens.

I despair, all I want is to separate the video and audio. I don't want them moving together. I want to add video alone but not oadd to the music on the audio. I want the audio to stay the same. Everything you have shown is the video track and audio moviing together. Am I the only person that wants to manipulate them separately? Shouldn't this be the first part of the first lesson. I don't want all this fancy stuff.

1. To "un-link" the Video and Audio streams, click on top of video in timeline and press U for Un-Group. You can now move them separately. 2. To CUT only the video or audio section, first click on top of either the Video or Audio track, then press S for Split. 3. You can actually import ONLY the video or audio component, by doing this trick. RIGHT-click and drag video onto timeline. Let go of mouse button and select Audio or Video, then Add Across Time. 4. To re-group (link) anything on the timeline, select both video and audio, then press G for Group.

@@MovieStudioZen I spent ages trying to do this and it wouldn't work. I thought there was something wrong with the software. Anyway, I tried it again today and after a struggle to highlight both picture and audio, and making sure the 'hand' showed, it worked if I pressed U to separate the two, and to put it back together pressed G. These things are so simple, and yet when you don't click the right thing, it doesn't work and drove me insane. Thank you for your prompt help. Sony Movie Studio keep trying to get me to buy their version 24 or whatever the latest is, but I don't need it. I don't want all the fancy stuff. I just simply cut out what I don't want, and add extra bits that I do. .
