“The work is the shortcut.” - Apolo Anton Ohno
What are the characteristics of an olympic mindset?
More importantly, how well does that mindset work, once the time for chasing medals is over?
These were the kinds of questions that Apolo Anton Ohno, the most decorated American winter olympian of all time, had to ask himself when he retired from short track speed skating at the age of 28.
How do you forge a brand new identity when your old one is no longer relevant? How do you define a life well lived? How do you find, and stay aligned with, your True North?
In today’s episode of Impact Theory, we dive deep into these questions and more, including Anton’s humble beginnings, his relationship with his father, and the 5 Golden Principles that will help you through even the most challenging times.
If you liked this episode, you should definitely check out Apolo’s new book, Hard Pivot: Embrace Change. Find Purpose. Show Up Fully.

QUOTES:
“If my dad had not placed me in these types of situations and environments, or if I had not operated from those psychological places of fear, or anger or rage, there is no way that I would have been able to… achieve that level of performance.” [16:55]
“People want to subscribe and be a part of something because maybe they don't have their own identity for themselves. And it's much easier to turn their face and look towards something else.” [20:26]
“You're going to fail and it's going to suck and it's going to hurt and there's going to be pain. And you can metabolize that pain, or that pain can blanket you and keep you submerged. That choice is yours.” [29:53]
“I realized, probably about two years into my retirement, that I could get off the treadmill. I was actually in control. I was the governor of my own speed limit.” [39:31]
“You are strong enough. You can do the hard stuff. You're being thrown out of the nest, and you got to adapt. You can and you will.” [1:02:41]

What advice do you have for those looking to pivot in their lives?
@NathalieLazo
@NathalieLazo 2 жыл бұрын
Take the time to have space to themselves so they can listen to their own voice rather others telling them what they should do. Taking a reset for their lives allows them to come to our own conclusion to better listen to our intuition for a better pivot. Recently made this move a year ago and couldn’t be more happier for myself and the lives around me. Powerful video! Thank you for sharing this Tom and thank you to your team! :)

Spend some time with only yourself and think deeply about who you are, what excites you and what you want to accomplish in life. Once you have clear answers, go to impact theory and search for videos that will explain and teach/guide you what is nesserssary to achieve your goals. GOOD LUCK! 🐐

To the *incredible person* that's seeing this, I wish you all the best in life❤ don't over blame yourself, accept things and go forward. Don't let others define what “success” is for you. Get up, learn the skills needed and get after it, all the keys to a happy life is in your hands. Keep pushing.

Lie to yourself the way you want to ... You're lying to yourself anyways. Telling yourself that you must do certain Things or that you dont have to at all. Only one Thing is true: you must Live because death doesnt exist or more precisely death is non existence. So the only thing that will ever exist is life. Now go ahead and live

"...of making of many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear GOD, and keep his COMMANDMENTS: for this is the WHOLE duty of man For God shall bring every work into judgement, with every secret thing, whether it be good or whether it be evil." Live to please God and you will please yourself and others, and your life will have purpose because the purpose is for you to have life eternal with those whom are righteous and will be loving in return.

Great< video and some nice tips! This is a scary time for new investors but the best thing you can do is not to make decisions based on emotions. This could actually be a good time to buy more of your high conviction stocks or crypto on a discount. Wealth is created during bear markets, not bull markets. If your portfolio is really effecting your mental health then delete the app and go for a walk. Let the market do its thing and have a long time horizon. I buy and just trade long term more than ever, I have made over 16` btc from day trading with kathleen rife in few weeks this is one of the best medium to backup your assets incase it goes bearish
