Hello, I have made my coasters with simple single crochet rows. I like to work embroidery on a firm fabric of crochet to create defined stitches so I would recommend a dense stitch pattern. I hope this helps. Kindest regards, Roseanna.

Does it matter if you end up going through and not just the actual crochet stitch?
