Except it's not that simple for a few reasons 1: not every game is really built for PC, most are but there are ones that aren't 2: from a company perspective they have no real reason to release them online as most PC's run windows this a directly competing company 3: regardless of whether you have a point or not emulation is piracy, this is a fact and it's why Nintendo is well within it's rights to strike down emulators

Lots of emulators for systems using optical media can read the disc directly from the physical tray. Makes it even more fun since it adds a bit of immersion to the emulation itself, like for example, using Monster Rancher's disc stone feature to get monsters from any disc you have lying around. It also clears up some of the legal gray area since you're using an official copy of the game and not one that you ripped or downloaded.

PCSX2, a PS2 emulator, can play off the disc, and so can ePSXe, a PS1 emulator. I *think* Dolphin can, but I haven't tried, though if not, you can always just copy your disc. I haven't played anything for other systems using optical media, so I don't know off the top of my head what else there is.

I feel kinda bad. I've used the cemu emulator and been playing Mario kart 8 and breath of the wild. I've modded botw with graphics packs so it looks beautiful and have been playing it at 60fps with cheat engine. I wouldn't have been able to play these games if it wasn't for emulation. I don't have a lot of money so I wouldn't have been able to buy the games. The reason I feel bad is because you can still buy these games I just don't have the money.I probably would never have been able to play these games if it wasn't for emulation but it still kinda nags me. I think when I get older I'm gonna buy the games so I can say that I own them

Great video! Just a very small correction that would be that you don't burn an ISO from a CD/DVD/Bluray to a PC. That is often referred to as ripping. Burning an ISO refers to the process of putting data that's contained in the ISO onto a blank CD/DVD/Bluray.

Found your channel through THaC, Rags, and Fringy. Love the podcasts you do together, and subbed! I've been emulating some GC games through Dolphin. I own them already but I wanted to see what could be done with them at a higher resolution etc. I've played MGS Twin Snakes, Spiderman 2, Soul Calibur 2, Twilight Princess and the first Spiderman movie game. Soul Calibur 2 runs great. But the widescreen hack seems to really mess with the graphics for most of the games I have experimented with.

My first Emulation experience is FightCade, the game I played is Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Heritage For The Future, the arcade version, which I doubt (because it's in the 90's) is even sold. FightCade allows you to play them online, connecting ports to fill in Player 1 and Player 2. It's great.

When I started the video and saw Spider-Man 2 I instantly got nostalgia, as it's one of my favourite games and I play it on one of my favourite classic consoles the PS2. Also one downside about emulation is it isn't quite the same as the original console (though this mostly just for nostalgia), like putting in a memory card, plugging in the classic controller connectors, turning it on, putting in a cartridge or disk, man the good old days.

Pro tip: PCSX2 allows you to play PS2 games directly from the disc. In PCSX2 go to CD/DVD and select "Plugin". Also, downloading the BIOS is also a grey area. If you have a PS2, then it's best extracting your own BIOS from it. If you have a modded memory card then the process is literally effortless.

Emulation is also very good if you don’t have a lot of money or a lot of space for 10+ consoles in your home. I also recommend it for game libraries that were not available in your country. You can now purchase consoles that have done the hard work for you (you just need to plug them in and pick your title): I go for this option mainly because I had limited success emulating the games myself (downloading the roms was the easy part: getting them to work on the actual system was the hard part. The system either stopped working or only a few roms actually responded when I clicked on them). One software that I have found really good for playing foreign games on a GameCube, on the other hand, is Freeloader (I’m British and had received it with a game from America I got as a gift, so I can play American and Japanese GameCube titles on my pal console). Freeloader is a disk: you put it in the GameCube first, let it do its job, take it out of your console and put the foreign game in and let it run normally. It does recommend that you use a separate memory card for the save files for games outside your region, but I’ve never personally had a problem in that aspect.

also a tip for people with xbox 360s: the xbox 360 has a feature that lets you install a game onto a usb stick or storage device, which is handy, since all you have to do is install the game onto a usb, and then take that usb out and plug it into your pc and you'll be a-okay
