How to enable Cheat Mode in Celeste

Hey everyone! After looking at the comments I can see that some people are struggling with the code. I will write the codes that I know. Ps4: Left, Right, L2, R2, Up, Up, Down, Left, R2/R1, X Xbox: Left, Right, LT, RT, Up, Up, Down, Left, RT, A PC: Left, Right, Tab, Z, Up, Up, Down, Left, Z, C Switch: Left, Right, ZL, ZR, Up, Up, Down, Left, ZR/R, A (These buttons are for default settings) Please make sure you are where I am standing on the screen, and enter the buttons slowly (sometimes when I did it quickly it wouldn’t work) I hope this helps ----------------------- Ei a todos! I think it’s because you still have to unlock EVERY level and do EVERY heart to practice on assist mode, and you can use it to help you with one level. But with cheat mode you practically beat the game without playing it

yea thats because some people find celeste too challenging and they wanted to make it so that everyone can experience the game at a level of difficulty that is right for them. ik i sound cringe but its true, some people are looking for a chill time, and u shouldnt just treat it like a cheat or something and u cant make fun of them for it. so you're saying just because some people arent as good as others, that means that they cant get achievements? thats super unfair imo

On pc you can go to the save file and change the "cheat mode" boolean value to true

Something important to know: if you want the cheat code to work, you need to reset all of your controlls to default. I tried the cheat code multiple times and it only worked when i reset the controller config settings to default.

Very true! There are also multiple buttons on the default controls that work if you push them, it depends on what you’re used to I guess. You can see these buttons in the pinned comment

i used this on a fresh save file to test if it actually worked and then I deleted the save file. it gave me access to Variant Mode on all my save files, which is probably a good thing since I don't think I'm ever doing the c-sides.

Interesting. I already had everything in the game before learning this code, so I never knew how much it actually did. You get variant mode after beating the C-sides but I guess it just unlocks everything at once. Thanks for the info!

In cheat mode, is it possible to access the debug map? I’ve seen it be used by many people to instantly teleport to different rooms in a level but I can’t seem to access it. Hitting the tab key doesn’t do anything and I’ve pressed every key on my keyboard. Many people mention that there’s a mod called Everest, but some say that the map can be accessed without mods. I can’t find ANY videos or explanations on how to access it other than “hit tab while in a chapter”. Please, I can’t figure this out

@@matthewhunter2443 I don’t play on pc, but from what I know you have to go to your game files and find the saves folder then a text file called “settings.celeste”, then you have to find the row that says “launchindebugmode” and change the value from false to true. After this, when you open the game I think you’ll have access to all of the debug stuff like pressing tab to open the map etc. I don’t know if it works with cheat mode but I can’t see why it wouldn’t. Hope this helps!

Most people use it to practice certain levels. Better to get straight to the level you need than go through the whole game to get to it. And you can still turn help on if you need it.

easier method: enable assist mode

Assist mode is more of a level specific thing in my opinion. If you’re struggling with a level, turn it on and get through the hard section and then turn it off. Cheat mode is different because it allows you to unlock every level right from the beginning, with chapters unlocked too. Also, all heart gates open when you get to them, even if you haven’t collected any hearts in the save file. It’s much better for practice

Not that I know of, and personally I wouldn’t recommend it if there was. Celeste is such an amazing and well made game with a whole lot of effort put into it. Although it is hard, I think you have to put that effort in if you want 100%. I have 100% and it was tough, but the feeling of getting it, knowing I did it all legit without cheating was the best feeling ever. I think on pc you can add debug mode tho, don’t know if it let’s u get achievements.

There is no way in the world that anyone would consider it appropriate to give achievements to someone who cheats, experiencing the game however you feel comfortable is one thing, but completing your challenges with cheats? It is as if in a speedrun the infinite dashes and immortality were activated, like what the hell 😭

The difference is in the intent. Cheat mode clearly means what it is, and marks your save in a permanent manner. Meanwhile, Assist Mode was created with accessibility in mind. People with delayed reaction times can slow down the game to accommodate for it, some people with conditions that affect how they can hold or press buttons might need to remap their controls, or to counter it with having a second dash, or even invincibility in some cases. Plus, it is easily disabled if they find that the room they're in is more manageable. Of course, you can play the whole game without Assist mode if you don't need it. Some people, however, cannot experience it without it. This is what the mode is for. Some people might use it to " cheat ", but in the end, that still doesn't change the fact Assist mode was made with accessibility in mind. And to that end, why would developpers keep achievements out of the hands of people who just need a little help to experience their game too?

People with disabilities exist. Who are you to look down on accessibility when it can open up so many possibilities for people who otherwise couldn't do it? I have DCD (aka dyspraxia) and i have difficulty concentrating and my hand to eye coordination is less than stellar. I couldn't beat this game without assist mode and I'm grateful that I was able to experience this beautiful game without having to watch a gameplay video. (If you're curious about my exact settings I had it with dash assist and infinite stamina, along with 90% game speed)
