Thanks for the guide, The more people using LAN mode will let Bambu know how much people want a cloud free choice

Fantastic, thank you! I really don't want anything to do with Bambu's cloud, since I found out how much of my data they were slurping.

I blindly installed the latest update from the printer itself, then not half an hour later saw videos in my feed about the updates. Luckily it hasn't been deployed on P1X printers yet but I'll be keeping it in LAN mode firewalled from the internet for the foreseeable future.

can you connect to wifi without registering an account with bambu? Or you have to create an account first and only then use LAN mode

You can just type in your password on the touchscreen ,not sure on the P series

I believe that these options and more will be available in the update from Bambu. These options will be under "Developer Mode Settings", but caution is always prudent.

I can also recommend using your WiFi parental controls to deny the device internet access on top of setting it to LAN mode. The latter is a setting on the printer that may be subject to change if for some reason the device gets reset to factory defaults (by accident), while the WiFi parental controls are a very reliable safeguard that cannot be controlled by the printer.

So I just bought a bamboo labs p1s a week ago and I’m currently waiting for it what is the problem with the new firmware the p1s is also my first 3d printer
@PrintPractical14 сағат бұрын
There are a few things, but from a 5000ft view, Bambulab said that they are enabling some extra security in a new firmware update that will block 3rd party software & devices to perform certain functionality on the printer. A huge part of the Bambu user community uses Orca slicer, and folks are worried about the changes affecting their current workflow for printing. Other 3rd party hardware like Panda Touch will be pretty limited in the functionality. These changes are worrying the community that even more restrictions will be laid out in the future. That’s why a lot of people are deciding to remain on current firmware, and switch to LAN only, so that they are not reliant on the Bambu cloud systems. That’s kind of a summary, check out the Bambulab blogs and Reddit to read more specifics. As a normal 3d printer user, you may not notice anything, this is more of a concern for advanced users.

Nothing wrong if you have a bambu labs printer, people are freaking out for no reason
@PrintPractical11 сағат бұрын
I think it’s valid for advanced users and print farm owners to have concerns, but for the typical 3D printer hobbyist, probably nothing to worry about. Though, some people get the ick knowing their stuff is going up to the cloud, so there’s a reason LAN only mode exists. It’s good for people to have the knowledge of how to put their printers in this mode, if they so desire.

So...what does putting the model (even in their own slicer) through their cloud before sending to the printer even do? Is there something you miss? As it seems to be more straight forward.

quick question can i still use the panda touch screen in lan only mode?
@PrintPractical12 сағат бұрын
Well.. yes for right now. It’s unclear if it will work once Bambu releases their security update. They actually said it won’t work once the security update goes out originally, but then they said they are adding a “developer” mode which will enable the old MQTT APIs that the Panda Touch uses. We won’t know for sure, but I can say I just tested it now with my current firmware, and it works fine in LAN online.
@kensik12 сағат бұрын
@@PrintPractical thanks I just got the panda touch for Christmas so I hope they will let it work.

Is printing more responsive?
@PrintPractical9 сағат бұрын
This doesn’t affect printing responsiveness.. Whether you are printing with cloud or lan mode, the print instructions are still performed on the device. This just changes whether your print files are pushed from the cloud to your device, or transferred from your PC to the printer directly over LAN.

Thanks for the video. Can I ask, how future firmware updates work? As in, how do you update FW when not connected via the cloud?

Bambu wants to limit access to their printers by other slicers like Orca etc. They would not be able to control the printer remotely anymore. They're gonna release new firmware that will give access only for the Bambu studio to control the printer.
@PrintPractical14 сағат бұрын
@@fashionskillerI don’t think this is necessarily 100% true. Bambu claims that Orca slicer will be fine when they integrate with their connect architecture, but who really knows until this stuff makes its way out to production
@kylequinn19636 сағат бұрын
@@PrintPractical Orca also put out a statement saying this is false, so did BTT.

@NWGR4 сағат бұрын
@@kylequinn1963 No, what the orca dev said was that they were denied direct access to the printer from orca (basically if they could keep it working as it does now). So with the update, when you send the file with orca, it opens bambu connect where you choose your filaments and send it to the printer. See bambu's recent blog; it has a video showing the process.

If the printer is designed to make an outgoing connection to the cloud see if updates are available this mode does nothing to prevent that. The only safe protection is to create an air gap network. That would be a wifi router that has no connection to the internet. Any systems attached to this router will see each other but nothing else.
@PrintPractical5 сағат бұрын
Yes. This is definitely a valid point. A few reasons for LAN only without an airgap network could be: - You don’t want your model being sent to the cloud when being sent to your printer. - You run a print farm with software to manage a set of printers. It’s easier to send print jobs out to multiple printers and manage them this way. If you want to completely disconnect your printer from the cloud, @lifegettingintheway2710 is correct in suggesting segregating the printer(s) on their own network without an Internet connection.
@lifegettingintheway27104 сағат бұрын
@@PrintPractical In my system my computer is switched from my external access wifi to my air gap network. This prevents studio and any agents running on it from phoning home to see what's baking the the oven.

Can’t you just block the internet access of the bambu printer on your router? IP or even better MAC address filtering? I did this on my avm fritzbox via its software. Then i did the same as shown on the video.

1. sell your fischer price bambu printer and get yourself a voron, so you can learn how to actually use your printer and fix it yourself, and because it's fully open source.
