Just did this a couple days after talking to you about on one of your other videos. Mine had the wire there connected to the dummy plug. So I ordered the fob and switch and used forscan to enable remote start and it works like a charm

I have a 14 XLT (non police) with the hood switch. Trying to get Ford to admit the car is already 98% remote start capable… yeah… they don’t want to discuss that. Dealers quoted me $750-$1100 for the kits, wiring, splicing, and programming. They must get privately told not to publicize that Explorers are already equipped, but Ford chose to ‘de-provision’ features except on higher trim levels. A $50 aftermarket FOB and 10 minutes of programming turns it back on. (Plus a $5 service call to your neighborhood locksmith to cut the key blank) Good luck getting your Service Department to admit it.

Thank you very much. I didn’t think the remote start was a must have feature, but since it is easy to install, I shall try. I just need to find the right fob (not an OEM). I currently use a square one from a Vic that I had before. If you have time, can you please suggest which budget fob to buy?

The harness I thought was for my hood switch is actually for my front impact sensor. I checked the entire engine bay and can’t find the plug. I only have the dummy switch in the same location as yours. I was able to enable remote start on ForScan and tried but I think I have to add in the harness. Is there anything else I can do or have to do other than possibly adding the harness? Thanks

2016-2019 Police Interceptor Utility will require an aftermarket remote start option unfortunately. The hood switch will not work.

What key fob did you use? I just bought a 2015 PIU (former Michigan State Police vehicle) with 114k miles on the odometer. Be nice to have remote start!

I had an OEM key fob from a push start Explorer that I was able to program just fine, but I have also used the cheap china clone keys and have had good luck. You just have to get a locksmith who will be willing to cut them for you

Love your tutorials, have a question about 2nd row seat compatibility, I have 2014, do you think 2020 and up FPIU rear vinyl seats (60/40) can fit in 2014 model (in regards to the placement of the bolts/studs on the floor)?

I have not tried so I can not say for certain, but I would say it is extremely unlikely. The 2020 and newer is completely different.

Did this require any specific type of module in the vehicle such as an RFA or completely separate Remote Start module? I've got all the options in the BCM for remote start but after enabling all of that, after pressing lock and then the 2x start, all the vehicle (2015 FPIU) does is flash its hazards and honk. EDIT: After looking back at the video, forgot about the hood safety switches, do you know if these are absolutely required or just recommended? If there's no harness- is there any way to bypass it or would I have to install the harnesses as well?

I am not sure about if there is no harness. I do know that the circuit has to be closed to function.

So I have a 2015 FPIU and I have the harness and everything. I programmed the remote start with FORscan then I realized the hood switch was necessary so I bought that from the dealer and I installed it. However, when I click the remote start button the car doesn’t start and it just beeps as if Im locking it. I had a check engine light for catalytic converter and I reset that with forscan, however the car is still not remote starting. Could it be because I programmed it first then installed the switch? Do I have to reprogram it again from FORscan after installing the hood switch? the key fob I bought works perfectly fine as well.

To be clear are you hitting lock, then remote start 2-3 times? When the horn honks does it honk once or twice? If twice that means the remote start command was received, but rejected because of various reasons. It could be for any door ajar, or a check engine light being on. There may be other reasons as well.

@@depolicifyit honks once and the blinkers also flash, my blinkers usually don’t flash when I lock the car. I do not have any warnings on the screen that I got any door ajar or anything like that. I had a check engine light for catalytic converter and I reset that with FORscan just to see if my remote start would work. But unfortunately it didn’t work

Nvm I got it figured, my hood switch wasn't mounted correctly so the hood wasn't closing correctly on the sensors. Got it mounted correctly and remote start works! thank you for this amazing video

I use this one as a fob along with the blade only key that came with my PIU. You can get the same key without the trunk pop button also.
