Thanks for this video. More for the information/walkthrough on the GPN/public signature verification part. While there is a ton of info out there, on this and VeraCrypt, much of it is repeated and none I've found after a lot of searching was completely clear on how to go about this verification process. I'm decent enough on front end stuff but not so much on back end stuff, and sometimes the language alone can lose me. And too much info makes the judgment that we all know the basic Dummies steps. I prefer to be shown first so your walkthrough on how to use GPN and the Powershell for verification (which I've never come across before) was a lifesaver. Thanks for the help. I literally couldn't do it without you (I've been trying for over a year.)

One suggestion. You can eject the USB drive safely by right clicking on it and eject it (I think u know that) For the video you can put a a little tracklist like to preview it easier bitlocker 1:34 veracrypt 11:20 Thanks for the value you give it to us Thumbs up Greetings from Croatia

For the GPG command error in PowerShell ("no such file or directory found"), should be able to enclose the file names inside double quotes when typing the PowerShell command. This is also true for commands typed in cmd prompt. gpg --verify "VeraCrypt Setup 1.21.exe.sig" "VeraCrypt Setup 1.21.exe"

Thanks Rex... All my default encryptions that come with my SSD's are useless (i.e.: they do not work properly) and this has really helped me out. Nor does it, works better.., it's also, more secured.. It can also be used for the EXFAT format (i.e.: the new version to FAT32) and It can be used on any Windows/Mac/ect...!!

Yes just make sure you keep the usb in a safe place and don't write down the password and leave it near your computer :-)

27:57 i think it's for NTFS and Fat, since the drive will be formatted you need to specify the System File type, NTFS supports large file sizes where they exceed 4GB per file, Fat doesn't, for example you have ISO files, Setups, Movies, etc.. any file that is over 4GB will be using NTFS

Hi Crypto dad, I was curious would it be good to use both features of encryption, Bitlocker and Veracrypt simultaneously, to act as 2 layers? Also when activating Bitlocker there is an option to encrypt only the space that has been used, the question is if I select this option would it be a problem if I wanted to add more files into the Veracrypt encrypted file I'm thinking that it won't be a problem since when setting up veracrypt you set a fixed amount of space, is that correct? Using both should work, but might be over kill. VeraCrypt is open-source and more secure. Bitlocker is Microsoft proprietary, closed source. Could have back-doors built in. No way to tell since we can't examine the code. But it is easier to use and should thwart the casual hacker.

I veracrypted a new flash drive, put my crypto wallet on it, un-mounted, now a year later, i plug the flash drive into same computer, it says I have to partition the drive before I can use it. ( l click cancel). How do I mount it with veracrypt and enter password? the entire drive is encrypted (2nd option extortion - when i created it). grr

I'm so happy you took the time to share this video. I'm determined to get through this process and keep running into issue. I've downloaded PowerShell, GPG and VeraCrypt. My GNU first gave me a BAD verification for VC so I deleted it and started over again. Then a "KEY NOT VALID" so I deleted it again and reinstalled. Now I can't get the DOS windows open to "gpg --verify". I've been at this for two hours and have watched your video now 5 times. Any suggestions??? I love that you take your time to explain everything. I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro and my computer is not showing pages like yours. For instant, when I right click on the VeraCrypt file I only get "Open" I don't get the option to "Open with".

It's easier just to put quotes (") around file names on the command line than to change the names.

I'm not sure about that one . You may have corrupted the data on the external drive . It's quicker and safer to encrypt a blank drive before putting any data on there . Not always practical I know . Ideally you would buy a brand new drive , Encrypt it while it is blank , and transfer the data from the other drive over afterwards. I wish I knew what to tell you about The drive that accidentally got unplugged . There are some data recovery services that charge A bundle By disassembling the drive And scanning the disks . That might be an option for you if the data is Important to you .

Hi, I have the problem I encrypted my SD card in my Samsung Galaxy S7, after that i did not make decrypt on same device. I have taken out the SD card and I reset the phone to the factory sitting and then sold that mobile. Later i purchased new Samsung Galaxy S9. When i inserted memory card it showing the folowing: ( This SD card cannot be decrypted because it was encrypted on another device. SD cards can only be decrypted on the device used to encrypt them, Decrypt the SD card on the device used to encrypt it, then reinsert it in this device and try again.) All files in the SD card but I can't open them. Could you please help me to decrypt the SD card ?? Many thanks

Crypto Dad Certainly a helpful video on vetting software downloads which I have been blindly trusting in the past! I was indeed using bitaddress.org to generate my public / private key. My issue remains though on how to make sure funds sent to a newly created address are recoverable. The best approach I have come up with is to use a sacrificial install of Ubuntu, install and sync bitcoin core. Once core is synced, turn off network connections, import the private key. If the private key is imported successfully.. viola, time to toast the Ubuntu install. Is this paranoia? Is there a better way?? I am a little terrified at truly trusting a paper wallet I have not tested.

I might call it "borderline" paranoia 😁, but with crypto wallets you can never be too careful! I found this post on stack exchange that addresses your concerns. The easiest thing to do would be to just copy all the info to a new USB. Or once you have the drive mounted in the VeraCrypt window , right click on the drive when it shows up in the list and choose "permanently decrypt"

Well hardware encryption would be faster. It's usually built in to chips and graphic cards. software encryption is a little more flexible and can be adapted to specific situations and users.

Failures on the part of Rex here: For the VeraCrypt tutorial, you failed to explain how to identify the drive once you've connected it to your computer. Specifically, how you need to click on Vera Crypt, find the specific letter drive it was created under, enter the password, THEN gain access to it. Worst than that: You failed to explain if THIS setup allows for someone to take their encrypted flash drive, connect it to a DIFFERENT Windows computer than the one you downloaded Vera Crypt on initially to do this, and access a copy of Vera Crypt on the flash drive in order to then gain access to your data (via password) for ANY or most Windows devices. Maybe it's common sense that it'd work on any computer by design, but new people have absolutely NO idea, and don't make assumptions. As far as anyone can tell, they can only gain access to their drive if it's on a computer which has Vera Crypt already downloaded first. It would also had been nice to show how to install and format Vera Crypt from the intended encrypted flash drive. I have a 500GB computer, but want to encrypt a 3TB external hard drive. How do I do everything natively through the external hard drive ONLY!?
