Hi @philipblank, thanks for the helpful guide! If i buy a new usbc drive, do I need to format it anyways? Its showing me the option to encrypt from start without the need to format.

I'm asking because i mostly use my iphone and my windows machine. So i like the convenience of being able to access that drive with a laptop too if that makes sense
@PhilipBlank3 күн бұрын
Great question! But I believe the answer is no, the APFS formatting encryption is for Mac only, if you’re using ExFat or something cross compatible, the encryption I used here is different than what would work on that. There may be another software that encrypts on top of the device more like a translator, but to be honest I’ve not researched that much for windows.
@PhilipBlank3 күн бұрын
Also curious what is showing the option to encrypt? The PC is showing it or iPhone? I’d give it a go on the PC and see what happens when plugged into the iPhone but I’d be using a blank drive as to not lose any damage. I’d love to hear the results!

Oh man I’ve not had that much power draw, I do keep a quick charger battery pack in my bag to fill up the phone quickly. But I did find you can wirelessly charge the phone to at least maintain charge or use a dongle with data pass through that allows a second cable to charge the phone while it monitors. As of now there is no way to turn off the iPhone charging that I’ve found.

@PhilipBlank13 күн бұрын
@@JacobGagoOfficialfor me I’ve completely ruled out getting a monitor. I’ve tried to keep my kit to a minimum and pack it all into a smaller backpack. The phone works perfectly for me and I swipe back and forth between Notion and the Monitor App without unplugging it. When I film I have a “Work” Do not Disturb mode that sets my Home Screen to only the apps I use for filming and mutes notifications. I’m never filming more than a few hours at a time as I am not a professional by any means. So the fact that I don’t need more gear and batteries in my kit to have a monitor it will be a long long time before I consider one now. Also a note, the privacy screen on my iPhone really darkens it on the camera from what I showed in this video but it looks incredible in person to me to where I’ve not even found a monitor that I’d consider for rivaling in features and brightness. If you try the iPhone out and it doesn’t quite cut it for your workflow though it’s always an easy upgrade to get a monitor so no harm in trying it first!

Hey I was planning on grabbing one of these, but cant seem to find much on reliability. How long have you owned this and any issues that have come up on the mechanical side? IDC about the small stuff, I think anyone could come up with things like that for even the most reliable brands like Toyota. Reason for asking is I am not a mechanic by any means, the closest Lotus dealer to me is about 4 hours away and dont want to be going there more than 1 time a year for a check up.
@PhilipBlank9 күн бұрын
Great question but honestly pretty tough one to answer high level. The Japanese power train is highly reliable, especially for a sports car but also the British are not renowned for the best reliability in high milage for newer cars. For general use and daily driving I’d say it’s great. If you’re not hitting pot holes, and hard on everything or tracking it to wear out the bushings, it “should” last, but new cars can always have wire harness problems, quirks, unknown issues, etc and that’s the benefit of the 3 year warranty peace of mind. Relative to higher end cars out there I’d say the Emira will be super easy to own and nothing like a used Aston or Jag where you have no idea what you may be in for. With that, if you don’t have a speciality place for oil changes you’d probably need to find one (if not doing them yourself) or take the Lotus back to the dealer for the services every 5k- maximum 10k miles. (Toyota says 10k on the engine but most people change sooner) This one has 0 issues but it’s not used that often. I’d scan the forms and get a feel for what others do as most people don’t live near dealers for Lotus, closest one for this one is about 3.5 hrs. I’d vote you’re safe if you know what money you’re getting into with sport cars but what do I know, I’m just a random guy on the internet! haha
@DanDoesGame9 күн бұрын
@PhilipBlank ya i have a McLaren 570s, so i get more power means less reliable. I was more so talking about the issues I see online with Lotus leaking, handles breaking, trunk's and doors not closing, oil leaks,.etc. or if all of that stuff is just over exaggerated, just like the 570s was 🤣
@PhilipBlank9 күн бұрын
@@DanDoesGameoh then you’d be fine haha. I think it’s safe to say the Emira would be more forgiving than the 570 with reliability and maintenance concerns, but every car is a chance. The Emira has been a big step forward from the Lotus’s of the past in consistency and build quality, I’ve seen the metrics but I imagine Lotus is much happier with this model. The previous one’s were more go cart and rattily, this is more refined and feels like the new Supras. It does have a battery tender you have to keep on it if you don’t drive it often enough to charge, and you have to click the rear boot latch with a screw driver so the car shuts it’s lights off when you have it on the charger. I’d see if you could get one out for a test drive for a weekend and definitely see if the back seat height is tall enough for you but it’s a good car for range!

Yes but it takes a very specific device that has PD pass through and a USB-C port, I’ve used this one and it works but it’s probably not great on the phone battery haha. It’s from Acer amzn.to/3OVULAs It can charger the phone and still allow the app to function.

@@PhilipBlank thank you for getting back to me, what about a simple splitter with just 2 female ends, 1 for power from ext battery and 2nd female end for video connection to phone app, or does it have to be through the acer hub? or another option, 2 separate wires: micro hdmi to usb c (cam to phone) and then usb c to usb c (cam to ext battery) would that work? thanks again for your time
@PhilipBlank24 күн бұрын
@@ttog8883to be honest I don’t know as this is the only thing I’ve found to work of what I had. I don’t have any splitters but if it has data transfer then maybe! The second concept is an interesting one, using the HDMI out as the data transfer and USB-C to charge the camera? If I had one of those cords I would try it! I think at this point you could just use a through power supply on the battery port to keep the camera going, not sure how that would work with the iPhone if it could charge it up though. That’s a great question! I can’t say I know the size of the Tundra interior, but I would be hesitant to say the interior of the Tacoma would be much larger. A car seat/booster for your 3 year old would fit fine, that’s what I am using right now, but it’s not spacious by any means. I’d go check one out in person if you can and bring the car seat! That’s an expensive jump to a vehicle that may not be solving your issues. I am looking at getting a 4-runner instead for the rear seat space increase.

From their website though it does say that the a6500 should work wired with limited capabilities: monitorplus.cc/docs/general/camera-compatibility-and-capability/ or you can try the Sony Monitor and Control App. I usually try cables on Amazon and if they don’t work return them free if you have prime.

That’s a hot take! The 2UZ-FE is an extremely overbuilt and great engine that people love, it’s gone now and the next gen V8 was not as great but I’d be skeptical to say there will be as many high mileage hybrids as the older Sequoias with the V8s. www.motortrend.com/features/million-mile-tundra-the-tear-down/ They make these engines down in Alabama and I’ve talked to people there, the engineering specs to manufacture the new V6’s are extremely tight. How they are shimmed is critical to prevent premature failure and they are not as forgiving to debris which part of the reason Toyota already had the big recall on the non-hybrid V6s. I will be happy to be wrong if we see these hybrid powertrains last for years though!
@akselfjerstad2567Ай бұрын
Saying that a new hybrid powertrain might not be as reliable as the old engine isn't that hot of a take.. It's just the basic truth about ANYTHING that's new. It hasn't been proven out yet. Not to mention, anytime you add more components to a system, such as a hybrid powertrain, you create more possible failure points.

The 3 orange lights are not a DOT requirement, they are for show. All Sequoia's are the same width. If they ere a requirement they would be on all Sequoia versions.

Fair! the DOT and FMVSS 108 standards require work vehicles with 80in. width of the widest part of the vehicle, excluding mirrors or accessories, the amber lights. The Sequoia is 79.6 inches so it’s .4 inches less than the requirement making it not required and for show, it closer matches the styling of TRX or Raptor with the indicators.

@@PhilipBlank Is there a weight limit that creates exceptions? The Tahoe / Yukon / Escalade are 81 inches and none use amber lights.

Actually I just learned something new looking it up so thank you for asking! The requirement not only focuses on the width but the use of the vehicle. Because those and the Sequoia are considered light duty passenger vehicles and not trucks or commercial vehicles intending to haul things they are exempt from the amber lights. Even going over the 80 in. rule, since it classifies as an SUV it’s not required to have them with the current laws. I didn’t know this before! They are 100% for show.
