Hi Alex. Would Z Mark work to give the dark finish?

Z-mark only works on ferrous metals

Hey Alex. Love your channel. It has been very helpful. Question. I am running a 50w JPT fiber laser. 110mm lens. I need to engrave/mark some challenge coins. The coins are made of .999 fine silver but we had them finished in an antique silver plating to show the detail of the artwork as well as protect the silver. Any thoughts? I tried on something similar to use the Z marking settings to see if I could get a black mark but no go on that particular coin. Do you think it will work here? I have to add a coin # as well as an ID number to each (which are all different). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Z-Mark for silver is hopeless. Z-mark only works on ferrous metals containing iron. Your best bet might be something like the black mark from the ultimate gold guide. We get a very nice black on WHITE gold which is a good bit silver. I'd probably start there. I don't think you're going to be able to get a black mark on the surface, so you'll definitely be engraving into the silver. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmTRdXyFg7N1sMU

@@LaserEverything Hey Alex. Lifesaver. Used your black mark on white gold setting at 60% (based on 50w vs 30w). Made a very nice crisp white mark on the plating (or possibly through to the silver but regardless worked well). Thanks again

The engraving has a red tint to it. Is that typical of electro plated metals?

It's typical of the pot metal alloy under the plating. I believe the camera is making it a bit more dramatic than it really is too.
