One of the biggest things I had to learn is that you have to find multiple ways to enjoy a singular hobby. Instead of just playing games, I want to talk about them here on YT, I want to collect, I want to show other people in my life and online games that might interest them, etc.. Sharing and spreading joy, as goofy as it sounds, is the best part of anything.

my best advice is to listen to your inner child. i bought def jam, simpsons hit & run, conker live & reloaded, king kong, etc for original xbox over the last year to get that nostalgia drip & have some brainless fun. def got me back into loving games if i didn’t before lol

As someone who has committed to making this year the year of defeating my own backlog I can attest to all of these tips. Put down live service games and multiplayer grinds, take a break from your favorite comfort games, make a list and ask yourself what you have always wanted to play but never have, and stick with it.

I was happiest with games before the internet, before social media. Back when GameFAQs was the only place to discuss things online... you HAD to make friends in real life in order to discover the best games and enjoy the best memories. Goldeneye 64 hasn't aged well, but there's a reason why older millennials wax nostalgic about it whenever you mention it.

Goldeneye is fine😅 not the best 007 entry, though. Perfect Dark N64 was made by the same people who made Goldeneye. Highly recommend if not yet played.

Absolutely! At the end of the day, we’re social creatures. And with gaming becoming so antisocial as of late, it definitely has ruined the experience in some ways. But luckily we have this community and other ways to bring back the tradition of old school gaming ❤️

A pretty good video with some top tier advice and as someone who also used the spend the whole day gaming at some point I can relate to this video on a personal level. Though I recently started to turn to reading comics, drawing, watching a movie or two or to do something else besides gaming. I mean I still love gaming and all that but I decided to just play games more rarely, like getting a new game or two to play for a few hours a day(like nowadays I usually allocate two or three hours for gaming when I have that game and after I finish it I'll just take a break until a game that captures my interest comes around). And I'd say that this really helps when you stop enjoying gaming, start trying to play less and do something else that makes your life happier instead. That's the best advice anyone can give to someone with that problem. And who knows? Maybe you'll find a new passion or hobby you didn't even knew you enjoyed doing by playing video games less and not spend all day on a chair on in the bed playing games all the time until the sun blows up.

I am very guilty of a lot of the points made in this video. I'm a real nut for impulse purchases, and that has equated to a seemingly never-ending collection. In a rare moment of serendipity, I have just passed my driving test, so because I'm now on the road, I have to force myself to be much more frugal with my money, so that frees me up to actually play all the games I own rather than buying new ones.

Did anyone else swap cheat codes during recess? I distinctly remember handing cheat codes and swapping memory cards with other children on the play ground. Shout out Jacob Bradshaw, he damn near beat GTA San Andres and let me copy his card. Maybe it was the same day we went and saw Team America World Police. Which my dad took us too, and told the ticket seller we were midgets. Only because they wanted to make sure my dad new it wasn't for kids

you are right about the connection between social media and gaming decline and its not just about us getting older. its about a generation raised with a high level of exposure to information and the real world froma young age killing the mystery and imagination from a young age . that imagination was the main building block behind the developement of many great games and behind the immersion of the players of that time because all of it was a byproduct of that culture but now games are self depricating and self aware and have goofy artstyle on purpose and are ''too cool '' to take themselves seriously and try to immerse the players which is a byproduct of poeple of this generation.but obviously the personal side is factor .you are never going to find gta san andreas as immersive as you did as a 10 years old.but to me the way i find my enjoyment of games back is by looking at older titles to remind me as well as evolving my type of game and going for slower more strategy based games like deckbuilders like slay the spire or devcision based rpgs but also some old timeless greats like tekken since the desire for excellence and perfect execution is the same regardless of age and the skill cieling is so high you can always improve. i also agree about taking your time to me its never been better now that i dont have school or homework to worry about i can really take my time.
@Vynsent
@Vynsent 18 күн бұрын
I fully agree! Things just don’t connect for the younger gen like it did with us, but we also had lesser exposure to a lot of things. It made appreciating games a lot easier, now it’s all so advanced, we’ve gotten a bit desensitized. I feel you on going for slower paced games nowadays tho! It was hard to appreciate them as a kid, but now I love to play something on the slower side 😁

I also did encounter the problem of not knowing what I wanna play from my library and just scrolling endlessly. At times like these you just gotta organize your library into your favorite games and games that you're done with and don't plan on replaying. Just put the games that you're done with in their own category and hide it. You might be cutting half or even more of your collection doing this, and you will be left with much fewer choices. Before the digital age, these would have been basically the games that I would sell back or give away to someone else because I've had enough of them. But you can't sell back digital games, so hiding them is the best you can do.

These are all great advises, and i want to put another one on the table. Unless some reeaaaly rare cases, YOU'LL NEVER ENJOY GAMES AS MUCH AS DURING YOUR CHILDHOOD, accept it. Or at least, not in the same way. When you're a kid, you don't enjoy things rationally, everything looks beautiful, even the worst game ever. Growing up and getting older, you develop your tastes, becoming more rational, and everything feels less magical, even games. That's why you have to enjoy games like an adult. Look at the game design, the mechanics, the artstyle, the sounds and the graphic in general. Think what works and what don't, why you enjoy some particular feature. Make some question to the game and yourself. Do not just think "cool! i can dual weild in this game", but think why dual weilding works, what make it fun and satisfying. First think with your head, and than you will enjoy games with your guts too again

I have way too many games on Steam alone (I'm 10 away from 400), and Im constantly going to my tried-and-trues. I do try to play some of the games I have yet to play when I can. There's a visual novel/bartending game that I played recently that I normally do not care for, but the cyberpunk aesthetic, music, and artwork grabbed my attention. I ended up getting hella enthralled until I finished it.

My experience is that, I don't like these games specifically, so I ask myself what do I want to play, and what I want is old PC games that doesn't exist anymore, they are abandonware, even launching them is a big problem, aside the performance. So figured how to make them work. - I played The Sting (2001), a charming theif simulator, that have game design that is considered challenging for todays standard. - I played Jack The Ripper (2004) a detective quest puzzle adventure game that has some brain teasers but the game is very atmospheric with its pre-rendered First Person view, and it takes itself and its setting completely seriously, and that is something games don't have today. - I played Money Mad another German game, but it's a unique monopoly game, with goofy characters, it's very light and fun. - I played Heroes of Might and m Magic 3 but the original complete version, and that's always fun. - I played Postal 2 and had fun being edgy. - I played Diablo 2 Res. with mods, because i want to have fun with more room and more loot, and more in-game gambling. I had fun, and I want to get home and continue playing them. maybe when I finish them i'll get interested playing other new games.

😂 cmon now you're being unfair. God of War ps4? Bloodborne/Sekiro/Elden Ring? Persona 5?? Red Dead Redemption 2? Breath of the Wild??? But nah you're right, the days of bangers being released consistently are behind us. Remember when every popular game was like a 7 or above? We now have huge releases with hype surrounding them that are just straight up garbage lol. I think the golden age of gaming is definitely fizzling out. Don't get me wrong, having games look as good as they do now is actually insane, but it's almost rare for us to get anything above 8/10. That used to be commonplace in the industry. I personally thing mobile gaming and micro transactions ruined the format of how developers think, going into a project.
@verygoodfreelancer
@verygoodfreelancer 26 күн бұрын
@@mewxtwo i'm being honest. game mechanics are a mess and have gotten beyond the developers. The puzzles in GOW ps4 are 50% just "look at things from the right angle" and artificial ways to extend the game. So many games play alike. Resident evil 4 remake has the same mechanics as Alan Wake 2. A large part of it is the loss of arcade game design, and people entering the industry who wished they were making films, and think Bigger Is Better. Lots of CEO-brained projects now. Also everything having to basically be on the same game engine now because everything is so expensive makes everything feel and play exactly the same game to game. It's a sorry state lol
