Left our cat alone with a small ball of yarn one day, thinking he was really cute. Forgot all about it until a day later he was walking around with about 12" of yarn hanging out of his butt. I'll never let a cat play with any string, or have access to any string again.

Cute. I wouldn't advise leaving a cat unattended with a length of string though. In my youth I lost a kitten from hanging himself while playing with a blind string.
