Great video. I will certainly be using these techniques when I start building my railway. It's surprising how realistic the bank looks even when it hasn't any greenery on it yet! It's going to be another good feature for Everard Junction.

Thanks, yet another fantastic update / demonstration. in the past i have used polystyrene then put the plaster on top, but the paper way looks a lot easier.
@mokanlines12 жыл бұрын
Nice tip about the plaster side difference, I never noticed that! Also, to smooth it out I use a foam brush dipped in water. I have also seen where, after smoothing it out with a brush or your fingers, sifting dry plaster on top and then spraying it with water and brushing it again. The draw back to that is if too many holes are exposed you get plaster everywhere underneath.

looks really good, if you don'tmind my asking, can you explain how to do it on here, because when i do it, i dunk it in water as you said, and put it on newspaper as you have, but when it drys, it isn't 'solid' it's still very flexible?? any ideas?

Great video and very well explained for those how are just starting out on model making,we need more videos like this to show case the hobby to new comers that its not just trains but scenery,wiring and control to get the best out of the hobby.I've always liked he scenery side it can be a real challenge sometimes and the end can look very realistic.Top vid mate I always look forward to your video updates even thou I'm an A4 man I just like the HST so that gets me thinking?....

Plywood will need something over the top to avoid a wooden finish. You could use card or plastic sheet and apply various paints to get the right effect. You can also make platforms from other materials such as card, it depends on what you want to achieve.

You're my favourite embankment man. :)
@EverardJunction11 жыл бұрын
I make mine out of brick plasticard. I by it from slaters plasticard, they have an online shop. If you don't fancy that there are number of ready made walls produced by hornby, noch and ratio.
@EverardJunction11 жыл бұрын
You could run a brick retaining wall along the side of the track. That would give you the effect of the track being built on an embankment.

Just a quick question: For your layout you have shown us that you use wood for your platform, but did you put anything on top of the wood like sound board, because i've seen noticed that other model railroaders have put some stuff on theirs.

That's great! Thanks for the help!

Hi. How tall is the static grass you use mostly? I`m building some micro-modules in z-scale, and planning to use some silflor 2mm grass, but I don`t know if 2mm is tall enough to get any wildgrass effect. Greetings from Norway.
@ANIMATIONDOTORG12 жыл бұрын
I would think 2mm is good for Z scale. I use 5mm for high grass on N so I guess somewere around 2-3 would be fine for Z

The sheets have the plaster already in them, just get them wet and lay them onto the hillside. They will set overnight.
@panther59012 жыл бұрын
can you please tell me what type of air brush & compressor you use
@EverardJunction12 жыл бұрын
@kylewilliams1000 Make sure you spread the plaster around when you lay the stuff down. Also you need most of it to be 3 layers thick. It will still be a bit flexible when dry, but once scenery is added over the top it will get harder.
@kylewilliams-zx9rv12 жыл бұрын
@EverardJunction thanks man, used this method lastnight, and it worked quite well, i am going to recommend your channel in my next update, thank you :D

Can I use strips of newspaper dipped in papier mache glue stuff instead of plaster cloth?
@EverardJunction11 жыл бұрын
The old platforms on the layout were wooden, I didn't put anything on them. They were taken down a few months ago and new platforms were built from plastic. The type of wood you build a platform from will determine what extra stuff it needs. Mine were made of MDF and I quite liked the finish they already had.
@Matthewmodeller22911 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the railway would have originally been operated by steam locomotives before they were all scrapped! The stains could also be fumes/exhaust from the diesel engines!

I didn't have enough plaster bandage, so I first put down a layer of paper mache'. And thank goodness I did! There is a small section where I forgot to place down the papar mache' and the patch is really weak! Everyone thinking about doing this, I recomend puttng two layers of plaster bandage or put paper mache' down FIRST!
