I think this video shows how important it is to train your ears. High passing, dynamic eq, these are all simple techniques, but actually knowing what needs to be fixed and then fixing it, is the hard part! Good work Streaky!

@@Hexspa Can you imagine buying 40k $ speakers and not treating the room, lmao
@Hexspa
@Hexspa Жыл бұрын
@@mariooo88 Yeah but don't these Barefoots create a cardioid pattern in the bass? I don't imagine that would change the time domain of the room that much but I'd have to see a measurement. Genelec also has the W371A which uses two woofers to balance out modal response. Actually, it's two boxes and two woofers each but they're sold separately - $10,000 ea. These systems are so expensive so fewer people have them. Of the people who have them, none seem to have published measurements from in-room comparing to 'regular' systems. I'm sure Genelec and Barefoot have the tests but it's the "industry standard" to not tell your customers much about the technical aspects of your loudspeakers - which blows! But also there's the work of Floyd Toole who, ironically, reference him when arguing against room treatments despite himself never saying that (that I'm aware). But he did research which found that people prefer more 'live' rooms. I don't think he controlled for professionals who work in absorbent spaces but the idea is out there. For the most part, a room free of too many reflections will give you the most accurate sound from your speakers. The exception to the rule may be when the reflections sum with the axial response to create a flatter SPL at the listening position. Even then, you have to control for the time domain and from what I know, the room isn't minimum phase in the sense that you can EQ down resonances; that means you need physical absorption. So, yes, I can definitely imagine it but in my world that's not the choice I've made for myself. Cheers. PS - I have no sense of humor right now :)

Hey Streaky! I know this is an older video but something here puzzled me. I was always under the impression that when dealing with these sub frequencies it's better to use linear phase eqing to retain "phase cohesion"? (I don't know if correlation is the right word here). I may have missed you talking about it in the video but I could see you were using the ff zero latency mode.... is that for accessibility or is there another reason for it? 🤔

Can you please help me - what's the quality difference between Softube Weiss EQ MP (RRP USD199) and Softube Weiss EQ1 (RRP USD549). I know EQ1 is for mastering and has stacks of extra features, but can I use EQ MP for mixing AND mastering...?
@nj1255
@nj1255 2 жыл бұрын
@@Peter-gu9ph The EQ MP is minimum phase only (like most other EQ's are) while the EQ1 has both minimum phase, linear phase and dynamic EQ modes (similar to Pro-Q3). Shure, you can use EQ MP for mastering. What you are paying extra for with the EQ1 is the linear phase and dynamic modes, but they are not a must-have if you already own other linear phase and dynamic EQ's.

Gosh, I hope I'm not sounding like too much of a fanboy here😋...one question though: do you see any advantage in mono-ing the subs this way, versus using something like the monomaker in some of the brainworx plugins for example, or any other Plugin like it, where you can just set it to a frequency you like, and everything below is being made mono....? Good sub bass will make your whole mix Louder, without the need to push mid high frequencies. Room reverbs will also add perceptions of loudness. These two alone is all you need. Another thing is to parallel compress your main elements to bring the in the front and secondary elements in the back. A third thing is to seperately compress left/right sources like reverbs, plugs, delays to create natural reflections. Very small dynamic difference between left and right channel is adding shine

With headphones, I could slightly perceive louder sub without it getting out of control but I wouldn't think this track need that! Still, these tips may help in the right case. I did notice a slightly odd pumping of the subs which I'm not sure was a side-chained bass synth or sub kick that was there with and without bypass. Surprisingly, couldn't hear any difference with Neumann KH310s and Sonarworks but the pumping was still there.
