Because of my KZbin medical education, I already fired my Drs. One didn't know what a CAC scan was and wouldn't order an Hba1c. I prefer KZbin Drs. like yourself. Keto since December of 2019 and now ketovore/carnivore. No meds and haven't been sick. I'm 70 and sprinting. 😊 Thank you for teaching us!

I’ve been to four in the last two years and none of them knew what an APOB was. All they do is look at my LDL. They all push the food pyramid and tell me to eat my fruit and more carbs and take more insulin. They said keto carnivore’s going to kill me. I’ve been refusing statins since 2009. The last doctor, did the fear factor, and said; I’m just going to call the cardiologist so they can be ready for you when you show up at the hospital. And I said; ok I’d like to go see what’s actually going on in my chest. Went to a functional medicine doctor and it’s the first time anybody’s ever check my insulin levels Plus a TON of more blood work Then any doctor has ever done!

770+ lbs (ERR on scales) - failed many diets and lap band surgery. Type 2 diabetic - eyesight failing, neuropathy in feet to name a few complications. I found carnivore and within 2 years I've lost 495 lbs and I'm currently 275 lbs. And my doctor tells me "WHEN YOU FAIL, come back and let's talk about weight loss surgery". Carnivore isn't just a diet; it's become a way of life and completely transformed my life. AND YES!! I FIRED MY DOCTOR!

Thank you Dr Ovadia for getting us patients educated enough to "coach" our doctors. Living in a rural area I have no choices to find a metabolic doc within 100 miles. My recent blood work showed HDL at 68, Trig's at 74, LDL 177. Of course she wanted me on a statin. I said no and asked for a CAC scan and a further breakdown on my LDL particle sizes. Surprisingly she said okay and ordered the tests! So maybe we can work with some of these doctors caught up in the matrix.

Hi Dr Ovadia. A few days ago you were on a live stream with Alia Wells and I asked about what I would do if my CAC score wasn't 0. I've been low carb/keto for about 9 years, Carnivore for the last 14 months. Metabolic numbers are excellent, but of course that pesky LDL is high. I'm happy to report that my CAC score is... 0. I'm turning 58 on Friday March 1. I'm slightly younger than my mother was before she was diagnosed with T2D. She passed away of congestive heart failure in 2021. Something will eventually get me, but it won't be complications from T2D. Thank you for all you do.

Excellent video and your information is to the point and that’s what I was debating with my doctors is to address the life style or the function medicine in taking the whole body as a system rather than a component approach. I strongly believe that our approach to medicine must be the practice of Preventative Medicine rather than bandaged medicine which is being reactive to the symptoms, if we all are proactive towards our health it makes doctor’s lives much easier, my entire family is in medicine and this the field that I discuss all the times. I am 67 went through a triple bypass in 2018, I only take 1 pill for my BP from 3 different agents at one point, reversed my diabetes and workout 6 to 7 days a week either hiking or at the gym, it has taken my own personal endeavors to reach where I am, my Triglycerides to HDL ratio is less than 1 all achieved through life style changes with no statins in the picture. Thx so much for putting out a very informative video and people or doctors like yourself make a huge difference that is a doctor is a healer first before any specialist.

Hey Doc. I found you on KZbin recently and thought I’d tell you about my circumstances. I live in the U.K., I have just turned 60 and was recently invited for my “annual diabetes check”. The nurse took my blood pressure four times and mumbled that it was a bit high. She then weighed me and told me I was overweight, before taking a blood sample. A week later I received a text saying my doctor needed to talk to me about the results. A week after that I received a call with the opening question; “ what are your thoughts about statins”. I told her I didn’t think much of them and she went on to tell me that I am a one in three chance of having a heart attack. When I said I would rather approach it by fixing it naturally, she almost insisted that I wouldn’t be able to change anything. This was followed up by her telling me that my cholesterol was high, at 6.4 and would undoubtably enhance my chances of a heart attack. In the week since, I have changed my diet and have already lost weight. I always sleep for a decent amount of hours and I am now exercising.. I just wondered what your thoughts were concerning my health. I don’t drink alcohol, don’t smoke and only use inhalers for asthma. There is no direct history of heart disease. Thanks in advance. Tony

My Dr is taking note. I have been mostly intermittent fasting for about 15 years and lowish carb since diagnosed with Type2 Diabetes. My HbA1c has been normal ever since. I was on blood pressure med for about 2 years. Stopped due to normal BP at Christmas time. BP remains normal. Started carnivore Jan. Inc LDL in Feb bloods. Chol triglyceride ratio very good. She knew I didn't want to take stats so organised a Calcium Score. Result was 23.6. Not zero but for someone who is almost 75, no diabetes, no hypertension, calcium not in "important" vessels of heart. (I have known about small bit of plaque in Carotid artery in neck for about 15 years, no change after 10 years). Dr very happy with result. No further mention of Statins.

Thank you so much for all this valuable information. I am a fit 76 year old female. It as discovered through a different teat that I had a small calcified plaque in the LAD. So I had a calcium score test and then the other test which shows up all plaques. so I have 2 plaques 25% and one place 25-45% plaque. I took my doctors advise and lost 10kgs. I changed my eating habit. No carbs and no sugar. I only eat 2 meals a day and I exercise and mix socially. My cardiologist put me on statins. Now 4 months later my LDL is 3 and all other lipids good. My HBA1C was high before and am just waiting for the results of another blood test 3 months on. Should I be on statins for the plaques or will my lifestyle change address this issue. I would really love to be off statins. blood pressure 120/70 and have been on metformin for 1 year 500mg. Please are the statins used for plaques or high cholesterol?

I have MVD. 88 SVTs detected with Holter. I have 40 to 50% blockage in LAD. Was very successful with weight reduction from 420 to 174 with Keto then Carnivore. However since I've been on Metoprolol my previously reduced A1C is back to 5.6. I had successfully reduced it to 4.2 with diet after being pre-diabetic for 35 years. I've also gained over 50 lbs on Metoprolol while eating exactly the same as had successfully improved all my health markers including CAC down from 642 to 432. I've been switched to Carvedilol. With no improvement. On both, I've had extreme insomnia that I haven't been able to control with, Benedryl, magnesium, melatonin and a 10000 lux therapy light daily. Can you suggest an alternative medication to Metoprolol and Carvedilol that I can speak to my Cardiologist about?

@@Malcolm-Achtman "Coronary microvascular disease (sometimes called small artery disease or small vessel disease) is heart disease that affects the walls and inner lining of tiny coronary artery blood vessels that branch off from the larger coronary arteries. Coronary heart disease (CHD), also called coronary artery disease, involves plaque formation that can block blood flow to the heart muscle. In coronary MVD, the heart's coronary artery blood vessels don't have plaque, but damage to the inner walls of the blood vessels can lead to spasms and decrease blood flow to the heart muscle. In addition, abnormalities in smaller arteries that branch off of the main coronary arteries may also contribute to coronary MVD."

Important is low carb to get you BP down. Slowly reduce to under 50g carbs/ day. Slowly, because when your BP falls over time with less carbs and you stay on your BP medication, you might get too low and pass out. Bit by bit reduce medication. Best would be you can regularly measure your BP, so you know where it is and adjust medication. Slowly means probably at least over a few month.... If you go low carb add fat, as you will need the energy from it to replace the missing carbs. Less so if you also want to lose weight. Start in the direction of keto: meat, fish, egg, cheese, butter & veggies ( leafy greens, less roots, as they store energy there in form of carbs). I am not a doctor, so educate yourself, if no Dr is there to help, and try do do everything safely.

If you are wanting to try carnivore, I would recommend lowering carbs slowly at first before switching to carnivore. Be sure to check your BP often as you are on medication. Also if you take other medications, especially blood sugar lowering meds. Many great KZbin doctors in the low carb arena. As far as food, ditch the stuff from the middle of the store. In addition to what @hamsterbox4732 says, don't eat fruit or any sweetened beverage. Be aware carbs are in things like Ketchup, etc. so read labels. In today's world we have to be our own best advocate. Best of luck.

I’m getting a CAC in about a month so obviously a little concerned about my numbers. My blood pressure primarily stays below 130/85 although there will be times where it goes up, don’t know if it’s from anxiety or not. At what point do I consider taking medication? I’m currently on a carnivore diet last year pretty strict for six months last 20 pounds improved carnivore over the winter for the next six months but now I’m back on it.

I’ve been on a carnivore diet for over six months now and I feel terrific and have reversed a few issues in my body. Of course my LDL went up a little bit to 136 and when we talked about statins, which I will never go on, I wanted to know if we could find out what kind of LDL and the density and they said they typically do not do those tests. Is there somewhere I can do this without my doctor’s prescription? Meanwhile, my triglycerides went down to 59 and A1c of 5.7. And the bloodwork also stated that the heart ratio of 3.3 is ideal and mine was down to 2.7. Why do doctors have to fight digging a little deeper? Of course it’s greed and corrupt.

I think there is another side to this too -- the patient side as well. You have to listen to your doctor as well. You may feel like they are not telling you enough or doing enough, but I've seen some cases where the patient was "selectively" listening let's say. They wanted to hear the good, but ignored the bad" like when the topic of cholesterol for example would come up, and ways they can reduce that. Or they listen but don't act. So be sure that you're an active part of the discussion too. To a point, if the patient doesn't want to change, the the doctor can only do so much. So people should also keep that in mind as well. You can get all the good advice and have a good doctor, and yo ucan say "Yeah, I can do that" but if you don't, then really you're wasting people's time. You have to be proactive yourself, as well as your doctor, in actively maintaining and improving your health and I learned this a bit the hard way to be honest.

But my doctor wants me to check my bp reading morning and night and see if there any changes and if there is she will prescribe something on my next appt. I recently had a sinus infection that caused an inflammation episode in the muscles around my heart. Had an MRI, after enduring a cath and 2 day hospital stay. I lost my job because of this incident. I have backslidden in my carnivore diet over the last 3 months and am trying to get back on track. Thanks for the words of encouragement. Keep making great content. I truly am grateful for this wonderful community.

Question..I was hospitalized last March. Had a normal ECG but the ER provider said there was a concern related to the blood vessels in my heart. He requested to get a Myocardial Perfusion test. Insurance denied it…been carnivore (90 percent) since last January. Should I be very concerned? Thank you Dr Ovadia!

Question please: so we need a CAC for hard plaque score. I’ve heard soft plaque is more dire. How do we measure this?

Depends on your CAC score which is easier and less invasive.

Hi Anne, CAC scans are a perfect example of how treatment gets put before prevention. Get the CAC scan, if you have plaque take action to stop it from getting worse. Knowledge is power and if your doctor doesn’t see that then Find a new doctor. I had a CAC CT done with a score of about 300. I take a stain every night and a baby aspirin. Should I be checking on my score annually?

I’m very afraid my doctor is not proactive, he tried putting me on 3 different medications, I refuse to take them, he claims to be a DO, he is anything but. I live on Long Island, if you can recommend another doctor that would be great, it is difficult, hopefully my insurance will be ok. Thank you

Drs in the Uk all seem to be reactive rather than proactive, and even then, they don’t react when you have abnormal blood markers, telling us they’re all normal!!! They failed to pick up my pernicious anaemia for many years even after twice testing positive for intrinsic factor antibodies. During lockdown I had all the red flags for PA (low B12, low folate, high MCV and high MCH), but was told to lose weight and there was nothing wrong with me. I was severely ill and they still said they couldn’t do anything. I was diagnosed a year later by my endocrinologist! I’m so scared of their “lazy doctor by numbers, but then ignore the numbers and completely ignore the symptoms” type doctoring, that even though I’m worried about my heart, I’m reluctant to go and speak to them. I turned my metabolic health around two years ago - after the dr told me to lose weight. I did my research and went keto. I reversed T2D, NAFLD, hypertension and obesity and lost 98 lb. My dr said “congratulations, but stop what you’re doing right now. It’s dangerous. You need to go back to eating carbs again”!!! Stupidly, I took his advice and my HbA1c has been steadily creeping up again. I’m worried about heart failure as I get regular chest pains and palpitations and have developed a strange cough that comes out of nowhere and doesn’t seem to be triggered by something environmental. They don’t listen to my concerns whenever I do go to see them about something, and apparently all the local surgeries are as bad as one another. The hospital isn’t much better. I had to go to A&E (your ER) a while back with crippling chest pains. I waited four hours to be triaged, then another two hours before any tests were done, then it was 15 hours from arriving when they sent me somewhere else for more tests. Fortunately it wasn’t a heart attack, but had it been, I probably would have died in the waiting area. I’m so tired of the shoddy service, none of which is patient centred. They simply want to dole out big pharma medications to everybody rather than get to the root cause of the problem. They keep insisting I take a statin, but having been on one years ago and suffering really bad side effects, I refuse to take them. I don’t know what to do.
