Great video dude well made. What does extended LCAs do for the car? Is that to run extra camber?
@Conorsev6 жыл бұрын
afew different reasons. more camber. wider front track. more inner clearance.
@memogutierrezjr63947 жыл бұрын
Awesome how to man. Question what kind of welder are you using or how many amps you think is best to get for this type of job
@Conorsev7 жыл бұрын
+Guillermo Gutierrez it's a cigweld 125. Not sure the amps as it has an arbitrary scale. It was setting 2 and was just penatrateing. Because you weld both sides it's not that important to penatrate all the way
@dstirls70896 жыл бұрын
I would have drilled a hole in the jig and tacked a nut over the hole and then used a bolt through one of the radius rod holds to hold the LCA rather than tack and then grind. But really if your only doing one every now and then it's probably not worth the extra time to modify the jig. Oh, and i would have just bought some 3x30mm flat bar rather than cut it from sheet.
@Conorsev6 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea. Problem I could possibly see is the Nissan lcas come in afew different lengths depending on the car it came from. The welding also avoids any destorsion from squashing the lca because they are open on the bottom.

What does extending the LCA do to the cars stance or handling? Im noob
@Conorsev6 жыл бұрын
it pushes the bottom of the wheels out. this gives more camber. more inner clearance for more lock and makes the front track wider

Would the same method work on a mk3 supra?
@Conorsev6 жыл бұрын
depends on the design of the supra LCA. im not sure how they are made. if its pressed sheet metal like this then you should be able to do something simmilar

Way over complicated cut placements... just measure and cut lmao
@DIYCameraGuy6 жыл бұрын
Ya, the cut doesn't need to be in the exact same place. The LCA's just need to be strait and the same length. Well I guess if you cut one in the correct place and the other on the wrong side of the LCA that would not work. They look good though.
@MJTAUTOMOTIVE7 жыл бұрын
No offence mate, but you should have purchased another set of Lower control arms (lca's) and cut 1 set 30 to 40 mm longer. That way alot less fab and you are welding the same material. Also you should always gusset the join. No matter how good of a welder you are ie, join week point. I know you said don't gusset your Lower control arms in case you crash. Don't crash. I would rather bend the K frame then have a Lower control arm let go because of shit welds and the highest stressed part of the arm. You would be surprised that once the arm is in place and you wind the castor on the stress in that part of the arm.
@Conorsev7 жыл бұрын
a 2nd set of LCA's is not in the budged. no sense cuttin up an extra pair when you can just use 2 and make the middle part. As far as reinforcing them. We have run un reinforced ones for years in out cars here and in japan and so have thousands of other people. Meanwhile you can change your k frame and we will be out driving. Sometimes crashes are unavoidable.
@MJTAUTOMOTIVE7 жыл бұрын
Conorsev . Like I said no offence mate. You did do a great job with the modification. Do you have room in the K frame to redrll the inner bolt location. What gains in negative camber did the extra length give you?.
@Conorsev7 жыл бұрын
the problem with changeing the mount locatoin is it changes eveything attached to the lca. extending the lca where i do means you can still use stock castor rods, sway bars and the geometry will be pretty much the same. if you move the entire lca out then all the mounting points on it will be futher out as well so you will need to re do heaps of stuff. also i think this was a 25mm extension. to extend the hole out 25mm is going to take alot more work then just making the lca longer
@DIYCameraGuy6 жыл бұрын
Well that just seams like overkill. I have never had a modded LCA like this fail. This is just how pro built extended LCA are made.
@rage6605 жыл бұрын
did you have any prob with warping? figured full weld an slow cool 'while in jig". Did the heat weaken the OEM material on either side of welds?
@Conorsev5 жыл бұрын
Never had any warping issues. I'm sure there would be some weakening but I have had a car with my lcas crash before and the lcas folded up like stock ones do with no signs of the welds failing.
